October presidential election: Gov't assures diplomatic corps of mechanism for inclusive, hitch free polls.

He gave the reassurances in Yaounde on Wednesday, July 30, while addressing heads of diplomatic missions, consular posts and representatives of international organisations accredited to Yaounde.

Mbella Mbella disclosed that sufficient groundwork has been made to ensure the election unfolds in total peace and serenity in respect of laws of the land. 

He said Cameroonians will head to the polls on October 12 and choose their next leader without having to succumb to pressure from any group, country, power, international organisation and institutions but to vote as a sovereign people united in their diversity.

Inclusive election

Mbella Mbella told his guests that one of the most exemplary legacies that Cameroon is looking to uphold in the forthcoming election is the complete inclusivity both at the level of aspirants and electors.

He said satisfactory progress has been made by Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, for the successful holding of the polls nationwide and countries covered by Cameroon’s diplomatic network where voting will also take place. 

“At the institutional level, ELECAM and the Constitutional Council are the main stakeholders in this crucial political moment for our nation,” he stated. 

He expressed that the process of voter registration and list revision was conducted satisfactorily, both in the country and in the countries covered by our diplomatic network. 

Minister Mbella Mbella also cited the recent publication of the list of aspirants retained by ELECAM and the submission of petitions to Constitutional Council by those whose files were rejected, which has so far been ongoing without any hitches. 

“After this stage, Cameroonian voters will know the final list of candidates for the 12 October polls,” the minister said. 

Cameroon to use October poll to restate sovereignty, unity 

Minister Mbella Mbella said Cameroon will use the October 12 presidential election to reaffirm its status as a sovereign State that is fully united in its diversity without any form of pressure from any third party.

“The President of the Republic of Cameroon shall be elected by the people of Cameroon, as a whole, united in its diversity, a country that remains one and indivisible amidst this diversity,” he stated.

He said Cameroon has relentlessly fostered the spirit of harmonious living together, values which he instead, will guarantee the holding of a peaceful presidential election at home and abroad. 

Urges int’l community to stand with Cameroon

Minister Mbella Mbella urged the international community to stand with Cameroon throughout the electoral process. 

“I urge your respective countries, the United Nations System, the African Union, the European Union, the IOC, La Francophonie, the Commonwealth and other solidarity circles, to stand by our country in this process,” the minister appealed. 

He said on account of Cameroon’s strategic location at the crossroads of two major regional economic communities, Cameroon should continue to foster a peaceful and secure climate, conducive for stability, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Gulf of Guinea.
