Re-elected CAMASEJ Douala President pledges renewed commitment to professional growth.

CAMASEJ Douala executive, members pose with national bureau representatives

Ace journalist with private television channel, Canal 2 International, Maureen Ndi, has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Douala Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ.

The election, organised in Douala on Sunday, July 6, reflected the trust and unity within the ranks of the association.

The election unfolded under the watchful eyes Egbe Frida Nken, Vice National President, and Ambe MacMillan Awa, National Auditor.

The representatives of the national bureau of CAMASEJ supervised the elections and officially endorsed the results, praising the fairness and balance that guided the proceedings.

With 41 validated members eligible to vote, 30 turned out to participate in the electoral process. The absence of a challenger did not dampen the democratic spirit of the occasion, as the election was conducted under strict observance of procedural integrity and transparency.

The re-elected president who has been on seat for the past four years, in her post-election speech, expressed both gratitude and determination.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Ndi reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the welfare and professional development of journalists within the chapter.

“It’s not going to be an easy ride. I know the challenges are there, but we believe we can do more to upgrade our members in terms of empowerment, in terms of adding value to their work, and continuous capacity building,” she emphasised.

Ndi said her focus will be on strengthening mentorship and guidance for younger journalists entering the field.

“We have a lot of them coming in, and they need us. That’s where we try to focus, to groom the younger ones,” she said.

In her role as President of CAMASEJ Douala, Maureen Ndi will be accompanied by committed professionals, including Smart Njikang Gabriel as Vice President and Bibiana Manca as Secretary General.

Juliette Messame steps in as Assistant Secretary General, while Emmanuella Nyoki takes on the role of Treasurer. The team also includes Amboh Gladys as Financial Secretary, Fon Rene Marquez as Public Relations Officer, and Oni Ladonette as Assistant PRO.

Social activities will be coordinated by Vanessa Chuyong and Abumbi Charles, serving as Social Secretaries I and II, respectively. Members of the association who saluted her dynamism and attention to professional growth are positive that her leadership will continue to bear fruits for the benefit of all.

National bureau representatives salute conduct of election

The envoys of CAMASEJ national bureau saluted the conduct of the election.

“CAMASEJ Douala, fairness and balance, the moto fits. We saw balance. The people chose their president to lead them for the next four years,” Ambe McMillan stated, as he expressed optimism that the team in place would bring even more value to the association.

The credibility of the election was further boosted by the presence of legal expert, Barrister Eben Emmanuel Nzo Nguty, and veteran journalist, Philip Soteh, who led the CAMASEJ Douala Ethics Committee.

In his remarks after the election, Philip Soteh stressed the indispensable role of ethics in any professional association, remarking that ethical practice is the “best ingredient” an organisation can embody.

On his part, Barrister Eben expressed the wish to see the association grows from strength to strength and internalises the ethics code. With the renewed mandate, the leadership of CAMASEJ Douala is setting out on a new chapter, aimed at elevating journalism in the region, and empowering the journalists as well.
