Demonstration of Nambudo unfolds inside multipurpose gymnasium

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art multipurpose gymnasium in Maroua, calling on stakeholders to utilise the facility to organise sporting events and improve athletes’ performance in the Far North Region.

The new gymnasium, the sports minister said, is a proof of government's commitment to promoting sports in the region.

With its impressive features, including a 600-square-metre main hall, two 60-square-metre restrooms for men and women with three toilets each, and a nurse's building with two care rooms and three toilets, the facility is designed to meet the needs of various sports disciplines.

A separate 50-square-metre cafeteria provides additional amenities, ensuring that athletes have access to all the facilities they need to train and compete at their best.

The construction work on the gymnasium was comprehensive, encompassing laying the floor screed, installing tiles and fixtures, and completing plumbing, electrical, and tiling work. These renovations aimed to minimise the need for painting, ensuring a seamless finish.

The gymnasium's design and infrastructure are tailored to meet the needs of various sports disciplines, ensuring that athletes can perform at their best.

During the inauguration, Prof Kombi urged stakeholders to utilise the gymnasium not only for organising sporting events, but also to improve the performance of athletes in the region. He emphasised the importance of sports development in shaping the lives of young people and promoting community development.

The gymnasium's potential to host a wide range of sports events was showcased during the inauguration, with demonstrations of various disciplines like Judo, Karate, Dancing sports and Nambudo.

The facility is just one of the many projects that the government is undertaking to promote sports development in the Far North Region.

Prof Mouelle Kombi also visited the Sahel FC Sports Complex where he encouraged the young footballers and technical staff and assured them of government's support.
