Far North: University Zonal Championships Zone A wraps up in Maroua.

Wrestling Contest between University of Maroua and University of Ngaoundéré

The Walya Higher Institute shone in individual sports like wrestling, while the University of Ngaoundéré put up average performances in collective sports but soared high in African wrestling. 



Meanwhile, University of Garoua secured a qualification ticket for the girls' football team to compete in Ebolowa.

According to David Biyo'o, National Technical Coordinator of the National Federation of University Sports, FENASU, the new format of the compeotition achieved its objectives in Maroua, providing more universities with the opportunity to qualify for the University Games billed for Ebolowa. 

Four out of the five participating universities secured representation in the national games, with ISTAM Maroua being the only institution without a representative.

The closing ceremony of the championship that included 12 disciplines, held at the Kongola-Djoulgouf-Kodek Campus of the University of Maroua.

It was chaired by the Rector of the University of Maroua, Prof Idrissou Alioum, representing the Minister of State, Minister Higher Education and Chancellor of Academic Orders.

The Zonal University Championship will next move to Buea for Zone C, scheduled to take place from July 2 to 6, 2025.
