The University of Bamenda, UBa, has taken a significant step toward enhancing the quality of higher education in Cameroon by signing Memoranda of Understanding, MoU, and Specific Partnership Agreements, SPA, with 22 private higher institutions of learning.

The agreements aim to align academic programmes with national development goals, particularly in agriculture, ICT, public health, and finance.

The signing ceremony, which took place May 7 in Bamenda, was presided over by UBa’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Theresia Nkuo Akenji, under the supervision of a representative from the Ministry of Higher Education.

In her address, Prof. Akenji urged private institution promoters to uphold UBa’s academic standards, while emphasising quality assurance, digitisation, and entrepreneurship to improve graduate employability.

"We conduct effective monitoring to ensure quality control and to produce graduates who are either employable or capable of creating jobs," she stated.

She further called for strict adherence to Cameroon’s 2023 higher education orientation law, which seeks to standardise and professionalise academic programmes.

Expanding professional training across CEMAC

The partnership is expected to foster academic excellence and expand professional programmes beyond Cameroon’s borders.

Monju Johnson Vishi, Proprietor of Vishi Higher Institute, revealed plans to introduce degree and PhD programmes, while extending collaborations to CEMAC member countries.

Similarly, Ntogwiachu Daniel Kobuh of Essential Health Higher Institute expressed optimism that the agreement would introduce specialised training in critical care, cardiovascular nursing, and agricultural sciences.

Since its inception, the University of Bamenda has played a pivotal role in mentoring private institutions nationwide, equipping students with practical skills to address societal challenges. This latest move reinforces UBa’s commitment to fostering innovation and development-driven education in Cameroon.
