The National Observatory on Climate Change, NOCC, in its recently ten-day weather forecast bulletin, warned again that there will be high precipitation in most parts of the country, accompanied by floods and landslides.

According to the bulletin, temperatures will vary between 24°C and 36°C in the coming days across the country.

It cautioned that in the Centre Region, areas like Nkolbisson in Yaounde and the Central town, among others in Yaounde, should expect flooding due to rain with high intensity.

NOCC added that the South Region may experience destruction of dwellings and public infrastructure, while the agricultural sector will also be affected by an increase in black pod diseases in cocoa and coffee grains.

In Adamawa Region, the NOCC forecast continued that rainfall will be slightly above the average recorded in the past ten days, and the Region, as well as the North West and Littoral Regions, may record floods due to intense rainfall.

The NOCC forecast urged residents in these towns, particularly Douala in the Littoral Region to be on alert and take preventive measures against waterborne diseases such as cholera and other respiratory complications.

The bulletin further advised the populations of these regions to wear warm clothes and not to walk under trees and electricity cables in order to avoid being electrocuted.

The NOCC Head of the Department of Production and Dissemination of Climate Watch and Warning Services, Dr Armand Romain Batha, told the State broadcaster, CRTV, that: “We are running further risks in the six divisions of the Far North Region. ONACC forecasts for the next 10 days point to an increase in rainfall across the country”.

The weather authorities remained optimistic on the end of the rainy season, predicted to be before November 15 in the Far North and North Regions.

According to the authorities, some regions will have to wait until November 15, and others until December 25, to see the end of the rains.
