The Policemen’s Wives Association, POWA, has donated didactics to some 78 orphans of police officers in the Adamawa Region.

The donation, according to the association, is to ease the kids’ readiness for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The gifts were handed over to the beneficiaries during a ceremony at the esplanade of the Adamawa Regional Delegation of National Security in Ngaoundere.

The ceremony was presided over by the Adamawa Regional President of POWA, Alice Bienvenue Abé. Also present were members of the association as well as some administrative, religious, and political authorities.

The gifts comprised of textbooks, exercise books, pens, school bags, and other essential supplies. They were handed over to pupils and university students. Some of the gifts were specific to the courses which beneficiaries are reading at the tertiary education level.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, Bienvenue Abé noted that the offer is in line with POWA’s known tradition of assisting children of policemen who lost their lives in line of duty.

Abe added that it is essential to ensure children of officers who died while defending the territorial integrity of the nation get the necessary material equipment to succeed in their various schools.

Bienvenue Abé also reiterated the importance of education, which, she said, is a tool for empowerment and development of every society.

“These children are the future of our nation. By supporting their education, we are not only honouring the memory of their parents, but also laying the foundation for a brighter future for our community,” Abé said.

During the ceremony, members of POWA and the beneficiaries took out time to pay tribute to the founding president of POWA, Philomène Mbarga Nguele.

The officials at the ceremony celebrated her vision and relentless advocacy for the welfare of the orphans whose parents lost their lives while in service. Her effort in driving the association and works forward, the members said, are worthy of salutation.

The beneficiaries, at the end of the ceremony, expressed deep appreciation to the members of POWA and its founding president for continuously supporting them. The beneficiaries also promised to make good use of the didactics.
