Eyumojock municipality: Mayor Ntufam Ayamba uses holiday championship to drum school resumption.

Authorities, cross section of population & trophies brandished during finals

The Mayor of Eyumojock Council in Manyu Division of the South West Region, Ntufam Ayamba Jacques, has called for the full mobilisation of education stakeholders in the municipality in order to ensure effective resumption of classes for the new school year.



Ntufam Ayamba who doubles as the Chief of Eyumojock town was speaking on Sunday September 1This was during the closing of the holiday championship organised for the youth of the municipality.

Harping on the importance of education, the municipal authority, while addressing the population at the close of the competition, regretted that so many schools in Eyumojock have remained closed for years now.

He disclosed that out of 57 primary schools in the municipality, just four were operational while of 25 secondary schools, only three are functioned during the last academic.

It is on this note that he launched a fervent appeal to school heads, teachers and parents to contribute their own quota to see that the situation improves this coming academic year which starts on September 9.

Mayor Ntufam Ayamba promised that the Eyumojock Council will play its own part in accompanying the education family in the municipality to ensure effective resumption.

He said for Eyumojock to develop, the children are the future of the municipality must have access to education.

It was also a moment for Mayor Ntumfam Ayamba to pay tribute to the immediate past Principal of Government Bilingual High School Eyumojock, Anafor Gabriel Agbor, who is going on a deserved retirement.

Described as a workaholic school administrator, Gabriel Agbor was saluted for successfully piloting the institution during the last academic year, with a excellent 100% results in both GCE Advanced and Ordinary Levels.

The retired Principal was handed a trophy and a cash donation from the Eyumojock Traditional Council for his role in ensuring effective school.

About the championship

The municipal authority had offered the holiday competition to gainfully occupy the young people of his municipality and to promote peace and social cohesion.

The final event featured finals in men and women’s football, traditional wrestling, draught competition, marathon, tug of war. In the earlier kick-off of the day, GRA FC defeated Oso Ayok FC by 2-0 in the female football final. 

The winner went home with 150,000 FCFA while the runners-up and third place teams got 100,000 FCFA and 50,000 FCFA, respectively.

GRA FC were once again dominant in the male football tourney but could only secure their trophy after post-match penalties on a 5-3 score line after a 1-1 draw during regular time.

They received a 500,000FCFA cash prize while the runners-up got 250,000FCFA with 200,000FCFA going to the third-place team.

Individual prizes were also handed to best players in male and female categories, highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper and Man of The Match.

Going by Mayor Ntufam Ayamba, the holiday competition was his own little way to put smiles on the faces of the population especially the youth.

“Apart from Eyumojock town, I was able to send support to other communities around my municipality to organise similar competitions to boost return of normalcy...,” the mayor said.

The closing ceremony was witnessed by a cross section of the population especially the youthful, the members of the traditional council, some Councillors of Eyumojock Council and forces of law and order. Eyumojock municipality is make up of close to 65 villages with over 80.000 population.
