Korea seeks to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations with Cameroon.

L-R: Korean Ambassador and Senior Deputy Speaker of National Assembly

The Republic of Korea is seeking to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations with the Cameroonian counterpart. The desire of the Asian country was the subject of an audience granted in Yaounde Tuesday August 13.

The audience was granted by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Hilarion Etong, to the Korean Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Nam Ki-Wook.

The Senior Deputy Speaker granted the audience to the Korean diplomat on behalf of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. The ambassador was accompanied during the audience by the First Secretary at the Korean Embassy in Yaounde. Discussions between the two officials centred on the state of Parliamentary Cooperation between the two countries.

They also discussed ways of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations through friendly visits between members of parliament of both parliaments.

At the end of the audience, the Korean Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the issues discussed as well as the existing ties between both friendly countries.

“It was an honour for me. We had very valuable and fruitful discussion,” the Korean diplomat gave his first impression of the deliberations as his country desire to deepen already existing bilateral relations.

According to the Korean Ambassador, the visit of Korean Prime Minister, Han Duck-Soo, to Cameroon last year and the visit of Cameroon’s External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella, to Korea for the Korea-Africa Summit in June, aptly illustrate the state of cooperation between the Asian country and Central African giant.

“So, the Vice Speaker and I evaluated how far our two countries have developed our bilateral ties. Also, we have the same desire of doing more to further develop our bilateral relations,” Ambassador Nam Ki-Wook told journalists.

“We don’t want to only develop ties between the two governments but also with the two national assembly. We should develop the friendly ties so that our parliamentarians can visit Cameroon, and Cameroonian counterpart can do same,” the diplomat further explained.

He also emphasised that Korea government through her international development agency, KOICA, has been able to achieve a lot to develop Cameroon through social and economic projects.
