At CENPA Award night: Microfinance institution, CREMIN-CAM, harvests fruits of quality services.

Renowned microfinance institution, Crédit Mutuel d'Investissement du Cameroun, CREMIN-CAM, has been distinguished for its quality and people-friendly services offered its ever-growing customers.



The category one microfinance institution was amongst several institutions and personalities on honours roll during the maiden award night organised by the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers Association, CENPA. The ceremony was staged July 25 in Yaounde. 

It was attended by several government ministers including that of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng. The ceremony was chaired by the Secretary General at the Ministry of Communication, Prof Felix Mbayu.

Meanwhile, the CREMIN-CAM delegation to the ceremony was led by the General Manager of the financial house, Ruben Ntap and his deputy, Okale Dang Valentine. 

Commenting on the recognition, the Deputy General Manager of CREMIN-CAM, Okale Dang, said the award was a clear demonstration of the microfinance market leadership, occasioned by their superior product offerings, best-in-class service and top-of-the-range technology which create value for their teeming customers. 

CREMIN-CAM has clearly distinguished itself in the Cameroonian financial services industry through superior service quality, unique customer experience and sound financial indices.

The microfinance, with a knack for setting the pace and raising benchmarks, is a clear leader in the digital space with several firsts in the deployment of innovative products, solutions and an assortment of alternative channels that ensure convenience, speed and safety of transactions. 

The institution has been pivotal in helping its customers step out of poverty. This is particularly the case of CREMIN-CAM land scheme which facilitates access to land for its clients.

Speaking shortly after receiving the recent distinction, CREMIN-CAM Deputy GM, Okale Dang described the symbolic award as an assignment and stepping-stone for the institution.

The Harvard-trained financial expert, said the award marked a crucial turning point for CREMIN-CAM, a financial institution created by personnel of the Directorate Treasury of the Ministry of Finance.

The award, according to him, stands out among many others the microfinance institution has so far received.

“This is the first ever award that has public connotation won by CREMIN-CAM. CREMINCAM has been recognised in other spheres but this one is different,” he said. 

Speaking on the action plan or measures the management of CREMIN-CAM intends to put in place to sustain the recognition received from CENPA, the banking administrator said the over eight-thousand-member structure is “moving step-by-step to ensure that we get to the peak of digital economy”.

“Our upcoming project is mobile banking whereby our members at the comfort of their bedrooms will be able to pull their banking operations from bank to wallet, and from wallet to bank without necessarily passing through a cash counter for transactions. We must embrace digitalisation like other financial institutions are doing,” Okale Dang added. 

With a membership of over 7,000, covering three regions notably the Centre, Littoral and the North, Okale Dang has urged the public to join CREMIN-CAM and enjoy better services such as affordable interest rates on both savings and loans.

With a vision to be a benchmark microfinance establishment in 25 years, a leader in terms of social responsibility through the pooling and profitability of its potential for the development and benefit of its members, CREMIN-CAM has as mission to collect savings and grant credit to its members while ensuring their security and profitability with a view to sustainable development and satisfying the legitimate aspirations of members.

CREMIN-CAM services and offers include: granting of credits, payroll domiciliation, opening of accounts, money transfer, VIP savings, term deposit, support for land acquisition, support and financing of public contracts, selling currency and travelers checks etc. 

CREMIN-CAM plans to open cash counters in Ngaoundere in the Adamawa, Bertoua in the East and Bafoussam in the West Region.

CREMIN-CAM, a category I microfinance institution created and accredited in 2009 is owned by the personnel of the State Treasury of the Ministry of Finance and as per the 2017 exigency of the regulatory authority, COBAC, the Credit Union is affiliated to an umbrella organ.
