Government High School Yoko: Centre Regional Council boss lays foundation stone for repair, extension.

The President of the Centre Regional Council, Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, has laid the foundation stone for the extension and renovation project of Government High School Yoko, in the Mbam and Kim Division of the Centre Region.



The foundation stone for the over 149 million FCFA project was laid Friday July 26. This was during a visit he paid to the school. 

Tsimi Evouna was accompanied by some of his close collaborators as well as the administrative authorities.

Also present to witness the ceremony were elite from the area as well as population. They turned out in their number to live the event.

Speaking to reporters, Tsimi Evouna, stated that renovation works will witness the construction of a building. 

He disclosed that the aim of the work is to help improve the quality of the teaching/learning process.

“We took the town of Yoko because it is a town of the future, an avenue of the exchange. It is an emerging town and equally the Mayor knows what is good for the population as such we thought it wise to give Government High School Yoko a facelift,” he said.

He noted that once the works for the extension and renovation of the school are done, there will be an increase in enrolment.

“The site chosen for the construction is beautiful and the vegetation of the town is the best. Here we are free from urban disorder which is the case in several other towns,” Tsimi Evouna stated.

The Principal of Government High School Yoko, Ngombe Lucien, on his part hailed the President of the Centre Regional Council for choosing to gift the institution a new look.

According to him, “he who says thank you is always asking for more”. Ngombe used the opportunity to request for the creation of a technical section in the school.

The engineers said the project will serve as an internship location for the various learners for Government High School Yoko. 

The project is expected to last 12 months and is financed to the tune of 149, 995 164 FCFA. Works are expected to end January 4, 2025

The learners, officials said, will carry out part-time internship on the site in sectors like the construction of bricks walls following the teacher's instructions.

The students are also expected to benefit through gaining knowledge on issues such as the shaping and reinforcing of bars and concrete alongside the mixing and transportation of concrete.

Students, it was also said, will equally have the right to approach workers on site and learn. The project for the construction of two buildings of eight classrooms each once complete will double the capacity of the Government High School Yoko.

The futuristic project in its entirety has a gender approach and will be accessible to Persons with Reduced Mobility. 

The project concerns the construction of a fence to secure the land base, an administrative building, and two school buildings of eight classrooms each. 

There are also related facilities including a toilet block, a water supply and solar-based electricity supply. It was disclosed that some 46 local workers will be hired.
