Yaounde: Defence & security forces thrill population on World Music Day.

Different groups of the Defence and security forces have entertained a cross section of the population of Yaounde through their outstanding musical prowess.



This was during a ceremony which the Ministry of Defense organised at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex on Friday June 21. 

The ceremony was in commemoration of this year’s World Music Day. For over two hours, the members of the defense and security forces left those who turned out for the event spellbound.

The ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of Veterans and War Victims, Koumpa Issa. 

He chaired the event on behalf of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo.

The event which was rich in sound and colour was a moment for officers under different units such as National Gendarmerie, police, customs, Forestry and Wildlife and army to enjoy good music. The guest band at the event was from the National Institute of Youth and Sports.

Officials of the National Gendarmerie said the event was also to give the public a taste of the musical skills of the forces of law and order to the general public. Authorities also told reporters that the event was also an opportunity to strengthen the link between the defense and security forces and the population.

It was a moment of gaiety and symbiosis as different corps of the armed forces in their diversities celebrated the World Music Day, underscoring the importance of national unity.

The concert equally feature presentations from the four cultural zones of the country.  These were from; the Sudano Sahelian, Fang Beti, Sawa and the Grass field zones.

A majority of those who attended the concert danced to the tune of music from across the country. According to a security officer, the gathering was a moment of communion and relaxation.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the donation of some medical equipment from the Ministry of Defence and its partners, including Afriland First Bank, SAT PHARMA SARL and many others. 

The equipment was handed to some wounded soldiers and war victims of Yaounde No. 1 Military Hospital. The gifts were handed over by Koumpa Issa to officials of the hospital.
