At courtesy visit: Transport minister, Lamido of Maroua strengthen cooperation ties.

Lamido of Maroua receives gift from transport minister

The Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masena Ngalle Bibehe, and the Lamido of Maroua, His Majesty El Hadj Abdoulaye Yerima Bakary, have strengthened cooperation ties.

This was Monday May 6 when the Lamido paid a courtesy visit to the minister.

The visit, first of its kind since he became Lamido of Maroua on September 16, 2023, took place at the esplanade of the Ministry of Transport in Yaoundé. It was aimed at strengthening ties between the town of Maroua and the administrative and political authorities that be.

Speaking at the visit, the Lamido of Maroua, His Majesty El Hadj Abdoulaye Yerima Bakary, in his statement to the Minister said: “My visit to Yaoundé this day, the first of its kind after my coronation, is to create contact and solicit advice from the high authorities of our country. In a bid to ensure the security and road safety of automobile users in Maroua, I solicit from your high personality, the organisation of a promotional campaign for obtaining of Category ‘A’ driver’s licence for urban motorbike riders, often implicated in grave road accidents for a while now. This campaign, I propose to oversee its smooth running”.

The Minister, in his response to the Lamido, said:I want to assure you of my entire availability, in the realisation of your vision to uphold living together. In my capacity as Hakimi, I reiterate my engagement to fulfill the mission bestowed on me by your Lamidat”.

“In my capacity as the Minister of Transport, when it comes to what concerns my ministry, Maroua is a priority, given its strategic link between Chad and Cameroon,” he added.

To crown the visit of the traditional ruler to Yaoundé, the Minister of Transport offered a symbolic gift of a cavalry horse, signifying a sure and unperturbed means of transport for the Lamido and his people.

It should be noted that during the Minister of Transport's inspection visit to international airports in the Far North Region, including the Maroua International Airport, on October 19, 2023, he was elevated by the Lamido of Maroua to the rank of Hakimi, a title of Grand Notable. This makes him responsible for the transport sector, including air, maritime, road, and rail, within and outside the Lamidat of Maroua.
