South West: Meveo Cultural, Dev’t Assembly trains youths on peace building.

National Coordinator of MEVCUDA, Chief Ndiko Fonderson, sizing up impact of drive

The Meveo Cultural and Development Assembly, MEVCUDA, has trained and certified some 100 students of Chitecma University Institute Buea in the South West Region on peace building.

The students received the certificates during a special ceremony in Buea on Friday May 3. The National Coordinator of MEVCUDA, Chief Ndiko Fonderson, handed the certificates.

The event was also an opportunity for MEVCUDA Coordinator to honour the management of Chitecma as well as offer cash prizes to some of the students.

The special prizes included books, pens, tablets of soap and vegetable oil were handed to students who triumphed in educative games during the trainings.

Speaking to the press after awarding the certificates and the special prizes, the National Coordinator of MEVCUDA said he was pleased with the exploits of the trainees.

“We are proud of the laureates and we plan to come with a programme for the training of trainers,” Chief  Fonderson said, adding that it will ensure “those already trained will be able to transfer the knowledge gained to their peers to make it sustainable because we have already planted a seed in these students”.

To the Registrar of Chitecma, Dr Tameh Jude, the initiative by MEVCUDA was welcomed because of the positive impact.

In this light, he encouraged the organisation to stage more trainings to empower the young people.

In 2023, MEVCUDA trained some 1,084 students on themes ranging from; conflict resolution, use of social media, and sustainable land use amongst other issues.

The award of certificates this year took a different approach with the process being decentralised to ensure students receive certificates in their institution.

As the organisation marks its 11th year of existence, the National Coordinator said it adopted the approach to honour the participants of “our capacity-building workshop in their institutions because of the increased reach and impact of its activities”.

On her part, Nembo Rose, one of the recipients of the certificate and special prize, said it will boost her profile.

“This attestation will boast my profile as a jobseeker after school because it is evidence of the capacity and skills I gained thanks to MEVCUDA, while the other items will help me as well,” Nembo said.
