MTN Elite One: Victoria United champions!.

They clinched the coveted trophy after recording a 2-2 draw against Stade Renard of Melong in a dramatic crowd pulling finale.
The fight for the title went down to the final day but Victoria United had the upper hand, after serial winners, Coton Sport of Garoua, were held to a goalless draw in an early kick-off game, by Dynamo of Douala.
The representatives of the South West Region started the encounter knowing that a draw would be enough to secure the title.
Dze Ebua Gilber’s 20th minute opener put Victoria United on course to a historic league success.
Stade Renard, however, fought back and revived their hopes of a historic title, when Victor Ngobara equalised before the break. 
Stade Renard took control of the second half and mounted pressure on the now Cameroon's League One leaders. 
They remained patient but were able to take the lead at the half hour mark, through Debi Zamanga Kotazo, whose deflected strike beat the Victoria United keeper.
Stade Renard had several chances to take the game to bed but squandered several glaring goal scoring chances. 
They paid dearly for their catalogue of misses when Victoria United was awarded a penalty after a handball in the area from a corner kick on 81 minutes. 
Cameroon international midfielder, Wilfried Nathan, stepped up and converted to draw level. Stade Renard attempted to rally back but goals dried up at the wrong time. 
The team’s gaffer, David Pagou, whose leadership and tactical acumen have transformed the team, since his arrival at the club, struggled to stamp his years of trophy-winning experience but their hopes appeared to be extinguished.
There were jubilant scenes at fulltime as Victoria United made history. They have become only the second club from the South West Region to win the Elite One title, after Tiko United in 2009.
It has been an impressive season for Victoria United. They only managed to reach the playoffs Up tournament, after a favourable ruling from the Disciplinary and Homologation Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT. 
They had finished fifth on the log in Group B of the 19-club championship, with 17 points but office decisions awarded them 7 more points, which catapulted them to 24 points.
Victoria United have also endured a controversial season. They are said to have earned a reputation of alleged match-fixing and favouritism from FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o Fils.
For Stade Renard of Melong, it marked another disappointing ending, as they again stumbled on the finishing line. 
The 2019 Cup of Cameroon winners, who gained promotion to Elite One in 2019, will have to continue to wait as the search for the elusive title rages on.
Thursday's game was attended by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga, the Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua and a host of other personalities.
For emerging champions of Elite One for the 2023/2024 season, Victoria United will bag home 50 million FCFA cash prize. 
Record champions, Coton Sport of Garoua, finished second, while Stade Renard claimed the third spot.
