Eze Gburu Gburu confers ‘Ezinna’ title on Nigerian Consul General for NW, SW.

His Royal Majesty Eze Thomas Jonathan Onyenagubor, the ‘Ohana-eze ndi Igbo of Cameroon, has conferred the Chieftaincy title of ‘Ezinna,’ on the Nigeria Consul General for the North West and South West Regions, His Excellency Bappah Lawal.



The title, which means ‘good father’, was conferred on the diplomat on Sunday 14. This was during an event at the palace of Eze Gburu Gburu in Tiko, Fako Division of the South West Region.

Eze Gburu Gburu said the title is in appreciation of the good works of the Consul General, since his appointment. 

The Consul General, according to Eze Gburu Gburu, has been a good servant of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the North West and South West Regions.

The title, he said, confirms the Consul General’s fatherly role in resolving issues amongst Nigerians in his area of command.

Bappah Lawal, he added, has always been on the alert, responding to the needs of his compatriots whenever the need arises.

The ceremony brought together presidents of Nigerian unions in different towns and cities in Cameroon, Chiefs and traditional titleholders among others.

Addressing guests before being conferred the Chieftaincy title; H.E Bappah Lawal, expressed his appreciation to all present. 

He also appreciated Eze Gburu Gburu, for finding him worthy to receive such an honour. He lauded the support Eze Gburu Gburu has been giving him and Nigerian compatriots in Cameroon. 

The Consul General appreciated Eze Gburu Gburu’s lead role in also helping in settling matters among Nigerians in different parts of Cameroon.

Speaking to the press after being conferred the ‘Ezinna’ title; His Excellency, Bappah Lawal, said it was an honour to be recognised by his compatriots in Cameroon.

“I am humbled because it shows the recognition and appreciation I have been getting from the Consulate with my collaborators. So, it is a recognition from the entire Nigerian community here. It will inspire me to do more in any capacity I find myself; by continuously rendering service to my fellow compatriots and humanity,” he said. 

The Consul General of Nigeria to the Littoral and West Regions, Her Excellency Efi Clarke, on her part, appreciated Eze Gburu Gburu and described him as an Ambassador of Peace.

Her Excellency Efi Clarke also saluted Eze Gburu Gburu’s support to all three Nigerian diplomatic missions in Cameroon. 

She promised to inform the Nigerian government of his distinguished outreach and service to Nigerians in the diaspora.

The President of the Nigerian Union in Limbe, Okechukwu Nwosu Leonard, said the Consul General deserved the award for his dedication to serving Nigerians in his area of command. 

“I appreciate this award given to the Consul General because he has worked very well for Nigerians in the North West and South West Regions. He always listens to our worries and follows up to resolve them amicably,” Okechukwu said. 

For his part, the President of the Nigerian Community in Tiko Subdivision, Chief Ezemone Benedict, said the award; the first of its kind, was a testimony to the selflessness demonstrated by Bappah Lawal in serving Nigerians in the North West and South West Regions.
