Ahead of Hajj 2024: MINAT boss announces Biya’s over 1.5 billion FCFA support to Muslim faithful.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has announced President Paul Biya’s 1,560,000,000 billion FCFA support to Muslim faithful for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.

The announcement is contained in a release the minister signed on April 12.

Atanga Nji who is equally President of the National Hajj Commission, said the money is President Biya’s largesse to ease the pilgrimage of the Muslim faithful.

The financial support, the member of government stated in the note, is in order to enable a greater number of the faithful to make the pilgrimage to the Holy Land and also to reduce the cost of the pilgrimage and make their stay a good one.

The financial support, the minister added, comes just after the Muslim community in the country joined the rest of the world to feast Ramadan.

The subvention given by the Head of State, according to the minister, is to help some 4,188 faithful that will embark on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia this year.
The figure of pilgrims, added has witnessed an addition of 1,023 as compared to 3,165 in 2023. The increase, the release explained, results from the closure of the one-stop shop.

“The Head of State's subsidy will be distributed fairly, as in 2023, between pilgrims at the airport before boarding. A bank counter will be opened in each airport of departure,” the minister stated.

According to the note, in addition to the subvention, the Head of State has granted Cameroonian pilgrims another special gift namely; 4,188 5-litre cans of Zam-Zam (holy water) which will see each pilgrim get 5-litres.

This, he said, the pilgrims will carry free of charge on their return after the pilgrimage. The special offers from the Head of State, Minister Atanga Nji noted, has helped to maintained the cost of the Hajj at an affordable level despite changes across the globe.
