Budding artists supported by Botangrecords

United State of America, USA-based non-profit organisation, Botangrecords, with headquarters in Saint Michael, Minnesota, has supported three budding artists with guitars and offered to produce another.

Botangrecords whose primary focus is in art, music and culture, in January 2024, unveiled an initiative dubbed gift of two professional solo guitars, valued at $200 each, to deserving young artists.

According to the founder of the organisation, Tohmo Martin, the response was overwhelming.

Going by John Iray, a music producer and musician based in Dallas Texas, who was the main judge of the contest, they received 34 request in two weeks.

“In just two weeks after launching the program, we were inundated with 34 heartfelt requests, each accompanied by captivating videos showcasing raw talent and unwavering passion,” he said.

Iray further stated that: “With so many deserving candidates, selecting the recipients proved to be a challenging task”.

He said after careful consideration, they selected three exceptional individuals as inaugural beneficiaries of the project instead of two as earlier planned.

The winners of the contest organised by Botangrecords, include Lindou Yann, Gracious Ngah and Tambua Evaristus who were ranked first, second and third respectively.

The announcement was made on February 11, 2024, on a live broadcast hosted by DJ Skeeper, a USA-based musician and artist.

A week later on February 17, 2024, each received a brand new solo guitar as promised. Grace Manzoic who was ranked fourth, got an offer to be produced by John Iray who is sound engineer, producer and musician.

According to Botangrecords founder, besides offering the guitars, they will accompany the winners as they hone their craft.

“Our commitment doesn’t end with the presentation of guitars. We will walk alongside the winners, offering ongoing guidance and support as they hone their craft and navigate the path to professional success. Moreover, we are dedicated to providing platforms for them to showcase their talents and connect with broader audiences,” he said.

On why Botangrecords, its founder, said: “Our project was born out of a simple yet profound realisation: there are countless young Africans brimming with musical aptitude, waiting for the opportunity to flourish.

Thus, we embarked on a journey to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, starting with a need-based assessment in Cameroon”.

Tohmo said talented young individuals across Africa, particularly in Cameroon, are nursing the dream of becoming professional musicians or instrumentalists but their dreams are hindered by a lack of basic equipment.

He said they are still looking out for more support from goodwill individuals to assist the so many talents who are still in need.

“There remain…aspiring artists whose dreams still hang in the balance. Here lies an opportunity for you to make a difference. Your generous donations, whether new or gently used musical equipment, will provide these individuals with the tools they need to pursue their passion and carve out a brighter future,” he said.

Botangrecords was founded by Martin Tohmo, a visionary leader with a deep passion for music and a commitment to creating a platform for undiscovered African talent among Africans in the USA and beyond.
