Prophet recognised at home: Fako chiefs confer prestigious ‘Mahvango’ title on Hon Malomba.

Fako Chiefs conferring title on Hon Malomba

It was all pomp and pageantry Saturday January 6, when the Member of Parliament, MP, for Buea Urban Constituency, Hon Donald Malomba Esembe, was conferred the prestigious traditional title of ‘Mahvango’, loosely translated into English as tactician and strategist.

The lawmaker was conferred the title by a group of Fako traditional rulers, led by the respected monarch of Great Soppo Chiefdom in Buea, His Royal Majesty Etina Monono.
The Chiefs who conferred the title on Hon Malomba are Members of the Fako Divisional Constituency of the South West House of Chiefs.
The youthful legislator was singled out by the monarchs for his immeasurable contributions towards community development, stellar performance as a state legislator and strategic role in the promotion of traditional institutions in Fako Division and beyond.
The historic and epoch-making event, staged on the palace of the Chief of Great Soppo, was attended by the ‘who-is-who’ in Buea.
The young and performing lawmaker will bear the title across the entire traditional Chiefdoms of Fako Division.
The traditional title conferment came on the sidelines of an event which saw the MP mobilising an unprecedented number of taxi drivers in Buea, in an anti-hate speech campaign dubbed “StopBadMop”.

The title, it was said, is in recognition of the plethora of humanitarian actions, community outreaches and novel socio-political achievements of the young, yet humble magistrate- turned politician, in his four years of service in parliament.
The college of Fako Chiefs from Buea, Tiko, Limbe and Muyuka, found it fitting and deserving to honour their son as a way of encouraging him not to relent.
While unveiling the title conferred on Hon Malomba, the Great Soppo traditional ruler, Chief Etina Monono, eulogised the sterling performance, leadership dexterity and political sagacity of the esteemed lawmaker.
He maintained that “Hon Malomba is an illustrious son of Fako in whom all are well pleased…”.

The traditional ruler assured Hon Malomba of the avowed support, dedicated prayers and best wishes of the good people of Fako, having given a highly impressive account of his stewardship in the last four years in office.
“…this is the first of kind that we have honoured a son with this title. This young man has washed his hands and has the right to eat with kings and he is doing that with us,” Chief Etina Monono said of Hon Malomba.
The monarch said Hon Malomba has done so much for his people “and he is going to do more”.
“He has a tenure of office which ends soon but after that, he will go back to parliament. We are unanimous about this. He is going to go places with our blessings. The powers we have, we have bestowed on him,” the traditional ruler continued.
He was categorical that: “We have never seen a young man who is so forward-looking and humble like Hon Malomba”.
During Saturday’s event, the various royal fathers present at the ceremony took turns to commend the superlative legislative performance of Hon Malomba in the areas of infrastructural development, capacity building, spread of constituency projects across Fako Division, donations to communities and respect and promotion of Fako traditional institutions.
The traditional rulers who didn't mince words, affirmed that Hon Malomba has made all proud as his presence and contributions are strongly felt in Fako Division.

“Recognition big surprise to me”
Meanwhile, speaking during the event, Hon Malomba said he was humbled by the distinction from the monarchs. Hon Malomba submitted that he never saw the distinction coming.
“All I can say is thank you to my fathers, for this outstanding mark of trust. God being my helper, I will continue serving you, the population of Buea and the nation of Cameroon with love and respect,” the lawmaker pledged.
