Kupe-Muanenguba: Chief Besong Williams is new traditional ruler of Manyemen.

Besong Williams Hillman: Chief-designate of Manyemen

Besong Williams Hillman has been designated as new traditional ruler of Manyemen village, Nguti Subdivision, Kupe-Muanenguba Division of the South West Region.

He was designated following a 100 percent vote cast in his favour by all the kingmakers of the village. The founding families; Njeck, Bafeneh, Ndong, Nsukobi, Ntibu, all rallied behind their new leader.

This was during a chieftaincy consultation, which took place in Bangem, headquarters of Kupe-Muanenguba Division, on Thursday November 23, 2023, in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Kupe-Muanenguba, Mungambo William Ekema.

Also present was the Divisional Officer, DO, of Nguti Subdivision, Etengeneng Kevin Oben. The new chief was designated without any contestation after Barrister Eben Smith, son of the deceased traditional ruler, declined.

Prior to the event, the SDO had dissolved the Traditional Council of Manyemen village on Thursday November 9, and installed a new council. After dismantling the previous Council, he convened the consultative talks in Bangem.

After his designation, the SDO urged the new traditional ruler to transform his village to a haven of peace and not of criminality. He said wrangling over chieftaincy in Manyemen had jeopardised the peace of the village.

Mungambo noted that the illegal sale of land in the village should be a thing of the pass as a new page has been opened. He urged the Chief and his new Traditional Council to start working immediately so that order can return in Manyemen.
