Fomunyoh Foundation schools vulnerable kids on digital literacy.

International Non-Governmental Organisation, The Fomunyoh Foundation, TFF, has trained some vulnerable kids, drawn from orphanages in the Centre Region, on digital literacy.

The training, which took place Friday June 16, was in commemoration of this year’s International Day of the African Child.

This year’s edition of the International Day of the African Child, was celebrated under the theme: “The rights of the African child in a digital environment”.

The Fomunyoh Foundation staged the training at its Youth Empowerment Centre in Yaounde.

It was done in partnership with orphanages viz; Zim Rehabilitation Centre Orphanage, the Saint Rita de Cascia Orphanage and the Bright Light Orphanage.

The kids, who participated in the program, were taught the essentials of digital literacy and the opportunities it opened to children.

The Executive Director of TFF, Prof Elizabeth Tamanjong, speaking at the training, said with the rising influence of technology, there is need for African children to acquire skills that make it easy for them to integrate and make gains.

We thought it wise to bring together children from various orphanages who are less privileged and educate them about the importance of this day and the importance of a digital environment,” the Executive Director said.

She reiterated the need for children to stay safe online. The event involved an interactive session with questions on the children’s knowledge on the International Day of the African Child and their rights as children.

The kids gained skills on computer literacy, using technology for education and entrepreneurship. The rights of the child in the digital space, trainees were told, are paramount for them to reach a global audience and consumers who can purchase clothing and accessories from anywhere in the world.

Prof Tamanjong said the goal of the The Fomunyoh Foundation is to inspire more African children to pursue careers in technology.

Prof Tamanjong said TFF, in the long run, looks forward to through such programs break the cycle of poverty and empower disadvantaged children in Africa.

Our next project is to put up an e-library here wherein everyone can have access to, not only the kids but teachers as well,” Prof Tamanjong stated.

Under the patronage of Dr Christopher Fomunyoh, Founder of the TFF, the kids were offered food items and sanitary kits.

The Executive Director, who handed the gifts on behalf of the Foundation, underscored that “as a humanitarian platform, we know the importance of food to the human body, hence we decided to donate foodstuffs to all the orphanages”.
