United Kingdom: Anti-Biya regime disapora movement disrupts Grace Decca’s concert.

Dozens of compatriots believed to be members of the anti-Biya regime Diaspora movement, Brigarde Anti-Sadinard, BAS, are reported to have disrupted a concert of makossa diva, Grace Decca, in Leicester, United Kingdom on Saturday June 3.

It is reported that that, the BAS supporters beat security to access the venue of the concert. They are said to have bought tickets for the show and pretended to fans of Grace Decca.

Respondents told The Guardian Post that, everything was set for Grace Decca to entertain fans when, the BAS supporters in the hall went violent.

They are said to have scattered the platform and chairs. It is said, they were almost reaching for Grace Decca when the security officers on duty rescued the musician.

One of those who lived the incident recounted that “when Grace Decca got to the podium, she didn't have time to say a single word. She was surprised by a BAS supporter, Maffo Laure who disrupted everything and attacked other fans in the hall”.

The same person stated that organisers of the concert had taken “the necessary security measures. It was even the condition for obtaining the authorization to organise the concert. But the BAS supporters bypassed security using tickets they had bought to to thwart the vigilance of security”.

They are said to have after disrupting the concert congratulated themselves for the act that has been greeted with widespread condemnation.

Some are said to be claiming that Grace Decca has remained silent on issues affecting Cameroon such as the conflict in the North West and South West regions, corruption, rising inflation, embezzlement of public funds and the suspected killing of journalist, Martinez Zogo.

At the origin of the attack and disruption of the concert is what BAS supporters consider, Grace Decca’s support for the Biya regime. Others are known for a longtime to have even taken exception to her presence at events which they view as having been organised by the government.

Since 2018, Grace Decca and a handful of other Cameroonian musicians have been under threats from the restive anti-Biya regime diaspora group.

In some instances, they have inflicted wounds on people whom they have catalogued as regime supporters.

Kamto Under pressure to condemn act

Some Cameroonians in the Diaspora have after the incident turned the heat on Prof Maurice Kamto, leader of the opposition Cameroon Renaissance Movement, MRC party, to condemn the act.

Kamto and the MRC have since the 2018 presidential election wahala been battling to separate themselves from the BAS movement. While the party has on several occasions distanced itself from the movement, many have continued to argue that BAS is a wing of the MRC.

With the recent attack on Grace Decca and the disruption of her concert, critics of Kamto are now calling on him to condemn the actions.

One of such Cameroonians in the diaspora calling on Kamto to issue a statement is Dr Jean Crépin Nyamsi. Nyamsi in an outing said it is imperative on Kamto to speak out against what he considers the barbarism of BAS supporters on compatriots.

He argues that Kamto must use the happening in Britain which is not the first to distance himself from BAS.

President Kamto, you must condemn the aggressive and savage boycott of Grace Decca in England by MRC activists and sympathizers,” Nyamsi wrote.

Context of protest

Kamto’s insistence that he won the 2018 presidential poll split the Cameroonian diaspora and still does till date.

Those who create BAS, some believe including those in the corridors of power are MRC sympathisers and supporters who have gone extreme.

Their likes have attacked several Cameroonian personalities, disrupted concerts and destroyed properties in several diplomatic services especially across Europe.

Those who have been dragging Kamto, a former Biya ally turned critic into the situation point to the fact that, since 2018, the former minister has staged several meetings in Europe with no one disrupting them.
