Buea MP, Hon Malomba, preaches living together, insists diversity country’s strength.

The Member of Parliament, MP for Buea Urban Constituency, Hon Malomba Donald Esembe, has insisted that Cameroon’s cultural and linguistic diversity remains a huge asset to the nation.

Speaking at a multicultural festival Saturday, organised by the Upper Muea Chiefdom in Fako Division of the South West Region, the young and dynamic magistrate-turned politician, challenged the people of the area to embrace the spirit of living together and national unity constantly being preached by the Head of State.

The lawmaker who heads the parliamentary network on road safety then advised the cosmopolitan population of Muea to avoid playing into the hands of unscrupulous individuals preaching hate and division.

He said as lawmaker, he has been working day and night to provide solutions to problems faced by the people of Muea, a community which he described as “being very close to my heart”.

“If there is place that I feel so comfortable visiting, it is Muea and you all know why. If a young man like me is in parliament, it is thanks to Upper Muea. The highest number of votes I got during the parliamentary election was from Muea,” Hon Malomba told the people of the area, before submitting his gratitude.

He mentioned that: “I am reassuring you all that I am your hunting dog, I wouldn’t sleep. I was here in December and I will continue to be here. I am not sleeping. I will continue to knock doors to seek solutions to the problems of Muea”.

“We can’t solve all the problems in one day but with the togetherness which is being implemented in Muea, the solutions will come faster” the MP added.

He then recalled: “You know the slogan which I used during my campaigns to get to parliament was ‘Na We We,’ but what does ‘Na We We’ mean? It means inclusion. That is my philosophy because I strongly believe without inclusion in our diversity, we can’t develop”.

He was blunt that: “No two human beings are the same and no two tribes are the same. These differences make us unique”.

Hon Malomba was categorical that “the most beautiful thing we have in this country is our diversity”.

“Multiculturalism is the acknowledgement that we are different; that is different ethnicities, languages and cultures. This kind of activity organised by the Chief of Upper Muea takes us to a higher frequency which promotes inter-culturality. When we mobilise like this to celebrate our differences, it is a step forward into interculturalism,” he explained further.

He said: “At the genesis of our political career, about three and a half years ago, we ventured the opinion, anchored in the philosophy of H.E President Paul Biyathat our diversity is our strength. Appreciating the uniqueness of each individual/community whilst harnessing our differences- ethnicity, culture, religion etc sets the seal on the vital ends we strive for: peace and development…”.

“Thusly, we stand with initiatives that foster intercultural interactions. The maiden edition of the Upper Muea Multicultural Festival organised by the Royal palace of Upper Muea that took place in Muea, Buea, on 3rd June 2023 is an example,” he added.

The MP then quoted Dr Kwame Nkrumah, stating that: "The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart".
