Meta clan renews friendship ties with Mankon.

The people of the Meta clan in Mbengwi Subdivision, Momo Division in the North West Region, have renewed their peaceful and cordial relations with the people of Mankon in Mezam Division.

This was the goal of the visit of the Meta Clan, under the umbrella of the Meta Cultural and Development Association, MECUDA, to the Mankon Palace April 22.

The Meta Clan delegation was led by His Royal Majesty, Fon Tita Taye Tabe Teghencha X of Zang Tabi. The delegation comprised Fons, Ardos, elite and sons and daughters of the Meta Clan.

The aim of the visit, the Fon of Zang Tabi noted, was to renew their long-lasting friendship ties with the people of Mankon, pay homage to late Fo Angwafo III and also to welcome the new traditional ruler, Fo Fru Asaah Angwafo IV.

"Our mission here today as the Meta Clan is very simple. It is to reassure you and uphold the long standing bilateral, fraternal relationship that has been enjoyed by our two clans for ages unending. We have come with our best of hearts and spirit of our ancestors, first to pay homage to the very illustrious and exemplary Fon of Mankon, who travelled a few months ago. Fo Angwafo III was one of the greatest Fons of all times, in the North West Region and Cameroon. He was blessed by the Almighty to rule his people for over 63 years, with intelligence, creativity, love, dignity and above all, respect for tradition, cultural values and mankind," a section of his speech read.

During the visit, which also brought together other Fons from Meta, the Clan Head of Meta, who doubles as the Fon of Zang Tabi, HRM Fon Tita Taye Tabe X, revealed that Meta and Mankon hold a strong historical ties back since the days of their parents.

"We are here today with great joy and complete happiness to commune and celebrate with you our brothers and sisters of Mankon, and to assure and encourage the new leadership of this clan. Primarily because in tracing the migratory path of the Mankon people, historians also hold it that, at some point, our two peoples sojourned through the Widikum valleys and hills in search of settlement. Today, no two tribes can boast of that mutual and warm relationship of living together as our two friendly and neighbouring clans," he added.

In the Fon's speech, it was also made known that common things like inter-marriages, business and culture are some of those that connect both the people of Mankon to the people of Meta.

Natural sign of living together

On his part, Ntumfon Barrister Ndangoh Tah Calvin, who was in charge of the mobilisation, said the people of Meta and Mankon also share a long border, which is a natural sign of living together.

"We share a long border with the people of Mankon. We have also had wonderful relations in the past," Ntumfon Barrister Ndangoh Tah said.

Ntumfon Barrister Ndangoh also said the two Fons and their close aids sat for hours, discussing about issues that affect their communities and putting in place necessary measures for peace to reign in both Mankon and the entire Meta.

"We discussed about issues affecting our relationship, because for some time, we have been having issues along the borders with our Mankon brothers and it was considered that everything should be settled. Also the reason we are here in our numbers is to make sure that peace should reign," Ntumfon Barrister added.

He called on sons and daughters of both communities to play their role in the peace process and allow politicians to do theirs.

The visit was graced with feasting, demonstration from dance groups and other activities.

The Meta Clan is an extensive area covering the whole of Mbengwi Subdivision in Momo Division. It is made up of 32 villages with different traditional rulers.
