Yaounde: Journalist, Martin Nkematabong, crowned Etoug-Ebe II Area Chief.

Celebrated journalist and Chief of Service for Regional News at state-run media, Cameroon Tribune, Martin Nkematabong, has been crowned Area Chief of Etoug-Egbe II Village in Yaounde, Mfoundi Division of the Centre Region.

The crowd-pulling coronation ceremony of His Royal Highness, Martin Nkematabong, took place Saturday April 15.

The event was chaired by the representative of the Divisional Officer, DO, of Yaounde VI, Ebana Jean Paul. It unfolded under the watchful eyes of the Paramount Chief of Etoug-Egbe II, His Majesty Ngeumba Thomas, and peers.

In a keynote address, His Majesty, Nguemba Thomas, told the hundreds who had gathered for the historic event that the new Etoug-Egbe II Area Chief is a man of uncommon qualities.

“His Royal Highness, Martin Nkematabong, is imbued with rare qualities of humility, unequaled generosity and infallible vision that has accelerated the pace of development in this village...I urge you to cling to his new garment to improve on communal welfare,” Chief Nguemba stated.

According to the Paramount Ruler, two monstrous challenges that await the newly installed Area Chief are the poor state of municipal roads linking Camp Sic Mendong and Derrier Le Camp neighbourhoods.

The traditional ruler also cited the seasonal floods that hit more than 1,000 inhabitants of “Vale City” each time it rains.

“As a senior state journalist, with an indelible professional name, the population looks up to you to erase their nightmares by deepening the depth of River Mefou, which seasonally floods adjacent “Vale City” with excesses,” His Majesty Nguemba told HRH Martin Nkematabong.

He added that: “The population also relies on you to knock at the right doors to improve our poor road networks, which has caused numerous ghastly accidents and also restrain our children from school each time it rains”.

Six other Paramount Chiefs who attended the coronation took turns at the initiation phase of the ceremony to urge HRH Nkematabong to shun tribalism, promote peace and national unity, given that he leads Bloc 11 that hosts over 3,000 Cameroonians of diverse walks of life, world views and tribal backgrounds.

Traditional dances of various colours from the different Regions of Cameroon graced the crowded arena with outstanding performances.
