Minister Nalova warns against overcrowding in classrooms.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga, has sounded a serious warning against overcrowding in classrooms.

The member of reiterated the need for having only 50 students per classroom in secondary schools in recently. 

She was speaking during the inauguration of some newly constructed structures at Government Bilingual Technical High School, GBTHS, Isokolo, Limbe, Fako Division of the South West Region. 

The two structures comprises a building with eight classrooms and 16 toilets and an administrative block of some 20 offices and a conference room. Both edifices were actualised at the tune of 170 million FCFA, an item under the Public Investment Budget of the 2021 fiscal year.

After a tour around the buildings, the MINESEC boss observed that both pieces were well constructed, rejoicing that the students will now have adequate space to study effectively, with the additional eight classrooms. 

The Minister thus dished out strict warning to the Principal of the school, Chi Azenui Josephine, that she will not hesitate to kick her out of the institution if information reaches her that more than 50 students are being admitted per class. 

“There should not be more than 50 students per class,” Minister Nalova cautioned. Receiving the Minister’s instruction with humility, the principal of GBTHS Limbe, Josephine Azenui, expressed happiness over the newly constructed structures, revealing that “it was long expected because the administrative block is going to make our work very exciting because the offices are spacious”.  

She equally noted that with the additional new eight classrooms, the students now have adequate space for effective study. The principal, nonetheless, decried the issue of inadequate water supply in the school, pleading for the need of a borehole to be constructed on campus to ease the challenge. 

“We will be happy if the Minister can include the provision of more boreholes to the school in her next Public Investment Budget for 2024,” she hoped.

Azenui also expressed the need for the construction of a fence round the campus to ensure total security in the school. 

The project was handled by Prince Fotabong Ajong, who maintained that the structures are solid enough to stand the test of time. 

GBTHS is one of two technical schools in Limbe, the other being GTC Bimbia. The school currently hosts about 2,000 students in various trades.
