On working visit to North West: Reconstruction plan steering committee chair urges population to appropriate projects.

The President of the Steering Committee of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions, PPRD-NW/SW, Balungeli Ebune Confiance, has urged the population of the North West Region to appropriate proje

Ebune Confiance who is also Director of Cabinet at the Prime Minister’s Office, made the appeal in Bamenda yesterday. He was speaking during a meeting with community leaders, and local authorities.

During the meeting, stakeholders examined the road covered so far in implementing President Paul Biya’s plan to revive their communities and design fresh strategies to advance work.

Among the palpable realisations on ground in recent times in addition to what had been done since 2021, Balungeli Confiance, disclosed that, at least 45 projects have been carried out.

The envoy of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, said 30 of these projects are schools that have been rehabilitated and equipped. Seven health centres and eight water points, the steering committee chairperson said, have also been made functional again.

This particularly, the PPRD-NW/SW Steering Committee Chairperson noted, has been achieved with the use of solar energy.

In terms of reviving the agricultural sector in the North West Region and making communities livable again, Ebune Confiance disclosed that over 200 farmers have seen their farms revived.

He said poultry farmers and some 27 women cooperatives have also benefitted from the reconstruction project.

The Director of Cabinet stated that, from field reports, the project is making progress in all the seven Divisions of the North West Region.

He used yesterday’s discussion with stakeholders to further appeal for the youth in particular to join the crusade for rebuilding communities and the return to peace.

Ebune  restated the commitment of the Prime Minister, Head of  Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, based on directives from the  President of the Republic, Paul Biya, for the population to feel the positive impact of the scheme in their communities.

The City Mayor of Bamenda, Paul Achombang on his part, called on Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, to rather put more energy in the return of peace.

Achombang stated that, peace must not be associated with any other interpretation given that, once it is achieved, everything will be alright.

To note that, after discussing with stakeholders, the minister visited some key projects across Mezam Division. Ebune Confiance’s working visit to the North West Region comes after a similar exercise in the South West Region last week.

He had also made a similar call for the population of the South West Region to take ownership of projects and speedy up the rebuilding of communities.

The multi-billion plan is an offshoot of the Major National Dialogue, MND, to rebuild communities in the North West and South West regions.

It has been on since April 2020. The initial cost of the project was 10 billion FCFA.

But since the United Nations Development Program, UNDP, implementing partner of the project went to work, government has been raising additional funds from national and international partners.
