Handball Lioness star opens FECAHAND can of worms!.

She stated that her decision is informed by ills plaguing the management of the sport discipline in the Central African nation.

The 25-year-old made the declaration in an interview granted to French handball magazines, Handball Magazine and Le Quotidien du Sport.

Karichma has proudly represented Cameroon since her switch from French to Cameroonian nationality in 2019.

She described her stay so far with the women’s handball team of Cameroon as a hugely successful.

“When I left to represent Cameroon, I was stung in my pride. There were some girls of my age who were selected and not me, even though things were going well for me. So, I said to myself: go and get some experience in an African team and why not Cameroon. My parents are Cameroonian. I am proud. I did what I could with Cameroon,” Karichma stated.

Despite the huge excitement and satisfaction expressed, Karichma believes the possibilities of her ending her international career as a Cameroonian international are hugely slim.

Exit motives birthed by FECAHAND instability

According to the French youth team Most Valuable Player, she is considering change of nationality again due to the crisis and instability at the Cameroon Handball Federation, FECAHAND.

The forward stated in the interview that that FECAHAND had been deep in instability for months despite the recent election of a new executive body at the federation

 This to her breaths an uncomfortable air of uncertainties capable of serving as career spoilers.

“I don't know what's really going on. There are a lot of problems to solve. The former management at FECAHAND embezzled funds. There were unpaid bills. We are still waiting for what was originally said and planned. I am not a volunteer,” Karichma stated.

“My only livelihood is handball. If I don't like what I hear, I'll change my mind. I'm not going to destroy my health for that. So, if tomorrow I have the opportunity to wear the blue, white, and red jersey, it will be with great pride,” she continued, revealing her readiness to follow the administrative procedures geared towards achieving a possible switch.

“Administratively speaking, we have to wait for two years since the end of 2022 when I last played for Cameroon. I will then be potentially selectable again. Defending the tricolors would be magnificent. Really symbolic and strong for me. To finish with a team before the end of my career would be beautiful,” the 2017 U19 European Champion stated.

Her record with Cameroon

Karichma has represented Cameroon in a Women’s Handball World Championship and two African Women’s Handball Championships since she picked up Cameroonian nationality in 2019.

She emerged as Cameroon’s finest performer in all three competitions.

The youngster’s incredible form led to Cameroon finishing as runners in the 2021 and 2022 African Women’s Championship. They lost at both finals to Angola.

If she were to eventually renounce her Cameroonian nationality, it will be a big blow to the Handball Lionesses who are preparing for the 2023 World Women’s Handball Championship.

Her targeted move comes months after the national women’s handball team coach, Serge Christian Guebogo died early this year after leading the Lionesses to win silver medal at the 2022 African championship in Dakar, Senegal.

At 25, Karichma has played for seven clubs including Celle sur Belle in the French championship with whom she emerged winner of the 2021 second-division campaign.

She has also played for Nantes Aulnay, Fleury les Aubrais and St-Maur and Chambray.

She currently plays professional handball in Italy.
