The Lions head coach and his deputy Sebastian Migne travelled to France at the end of last week where they have so far met four Lions players, playing in the French Ligue 1.

The two football trainers on Sunday February 26, attended the game between Nantes and Rennes in the French topflight championship.

Jean Charles Castelleto, Christopher Wooh and Ignatius Ganago of Nantes and Karl Toko Ekambi of Rennes met with the Lions trainers, the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT said in a statement.

“The Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions during his stay in France, took time to discuss individually with the four players in relation to their respective situations at the club,”.

“But above all, he held talks with them in relation to the new challenges that await the Indomitable Lions, and for which each of them could be brought to play their in role in ensuring the achievement of the expected objectives,” FECAFOOT stated.

According to the country’s football governing body, Song and Migne will also use to use their stay in Europe to scout and woo some new talents for the national team.

Paris Saint Germain in-form youthful sensation, Hugo Etikite, are expected to be cornered by the technical staff again after they failed to convince the youngster to play for Cameroon last year. Cameroon is in the lookout to fill the defensive vacuum created by Enzo Ebosse’s recent injury.

Lions to challenge Brave Warriors next month

Cameroon will face Namibia twice next month in the third and fourth day of Group C qualifiers to the 2023 AFCON.

The first leg match will be played on Thursday March 23, at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde at 5pm while the reverse fixture comes up five days later. 

The return match will be stages at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday March 28

Cameroon is currently ranked top of Group C of the current qualification campaign with 3points.

The Lions grabbed the 3 points after beating Burundi 1 nil in Tanzania last year during match day two of the qualifiers.

They had failed to play their opening game against Kenya who were facing a ban from world football governing body, FIFA.

Cameroon is followed in the Group C ranking by Burundi who held third-placed Namibia to a 1-all tie away from home on match day one.

Victories for Cameroon in next month’s games will see the Lions securing an early ticket to next January’s AFCON competition.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Ivory Coast between January and February next year.

Cameroon in case of qualification for the competition, will be challenging for a sixth continental crown.
