CAF Champions League: Coton Sport’s misery continues after successive home defeats.

Cameroon League one champions Coton Sport of Garoua suffered successive defeat in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The 17-time winners of the top tier league lost to Sudanese giants Al-Hilal 1-2 in their second group B match of the CAF inter-club competition.

The game took place on Friday February 24, at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

The defeat came barely a week after Coton Sport lost 1-3 to South Africa’ Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening group fixture.

They were on a mission to make amends for that disappointing outing but coach Gabriel Hamans’s team was stunned by a second half comeback from the Sudanese giants.

Coton Sport had a formidable advantage in the game when they snatched the lead in the first half.

Patient Wassou who scored a consolation goal against Mamelodi Sundowns in Garoua, was on the scores sheet again.

The starlet converted a brilliant goal from close range after collecting a pass from Djawal Kaiba.

The host regretted why they did not put the tie beyond Al-Hilal’s reach.

The Cotonites had several chances but   Ramses Donfack and Daman Bouba were not clinical enough to score.

The paid dearly for their catalogue of misses when the visitors turned the power in the second half and grew in threat.

They brutally changed the tables around when they scored twice within six minutes to take control of the tie.

Makabi Lilepo was the hero for Al-Hilal. The 25-year-old Congolese forward first levelled on 52 minutes with a well-taken free-kick before completing his brace at the 57th minute.

The win enabled Al-Hilal to consolidate their second spot with six points.

While they celebrate, Coton Sport continues to lick their wounds.

It was another defeat for Coach Gabriel Haman and his boys who continue to sit bottom of their group without a point after two games played.

The Cameroonian giants who are returning to the CAF Champions League for the first time since 2017, are still on the search of their first win.

Coton Sport must now regroup ahead of their third outing against 10-time champions Al Ahly.

The game is scheduled to take place at the Al-Salam Stadium on Saturday March 4 in Cairo.
