Senior Men’s Basketball Championship: FAP, Bonaberi lead temporal rankings after window one.

FAP are reigning Cameroon champions

FAP of Yaounde and AS Bonaberi basketball club of Douala have taken the leadership positions of the temporal classification table of the ongoing 2022/2023 senior men

The clubs warmed their way to the top of the placing following their performances during the first two games of the season held at the Gymnasium of the American institute in Douala last weekend.

The two teams are tied at 4 points and are separated on the tables by overall match-point differences

FAP is leading the overall rankings after garnering 4points and tallying a +28 match-point difference.

The team achieved the feat following its two victories against Littoral regional pair, Douala Fire Birds and Kadji Sports Academy also of Douala.

The FAP side which reached the semifinals of the 2022 Basketball Africa League, got the season off and running with a comprehensive 67-55points victory over Douala Fire Birds on Saturday February 11.

The club later followed up the victory with another mouthwatering win over basketball academicians, Kadji Sport Academy of Douala, KSA.

The Ministry of Defense outfit toppled the KSA franchise, 87-71points after a thrilling fixture staged on Sunday February 12.

AS Bonaberi’s impressive early path

Window one surprised packages, AS Bonaberi dribbled their way to the top two positions after two crucial victories over giants, ONYX of Douala and BEAC of Yaounde.

The newcomers who gained promotion to the topflight last month at the end of qualifiers staged in Douala, began their campaign in the senior championship with a massive 87-66points triumph over old guards, ONYX of Douala Saturday.

The team managed by Cameroonian basketball trainer, Yumbi Parfait, followed up the win with another hard-earned victory, a 62-61points win over BEAC of Yaounde.

The team held firmly to its high discipline-oriented approach to overpower the BEAC team during Sunday’s fixture despite BEAC’s near-desperate quest for a follow win after that against Alph of Yaounde on day one.

Elsewhere on the temporal rankings, AS Bonaberi and FAP of Yaounde are closely followed on the rankings by Ecole de Basket of Douala. Ecole has 4points following their wins over ONYX of Douala and Kadji Sport Academy of Douala.

The club is however ranked below FAP and AS Bonaberi on overall match points differences.

It tallies +4points difference, way below FAP and Bonaberi’s +24 and +21 points differences.

BEAC of Yaounde and Douala Fire Birds are placed 4th and 5th respectively with 3points each after recording a win and a defeat. Both teams recorded the lone victories against newly promoted outfit, Alph of Yaounde on Sunday and Saturday.

ONYX, Kadji Sport… get rough start

ONYX of Douala, Kadji Sport Academy of Douala and debutants, Alph basketball club of Yaounde are all ranked at the bottom half of the table. This follows the teams’ unimpressive performances during the gathering last week where they all lost their two opening matches.

ONYX is placed bottom on the placing. The club lost its opening match 87-66 points to league newcomers, AS Bonaberi on Saturday February 11. The club continued the uninspiring run with a slim 69-66points defeat to giants, Ecole de Basket of Douala.

Kadji Sports Academy’s two victories came after a heartbreaking 74-75points loss to Ecole de Basket on Saturday and an 87-71points defeat to FAP of Yaounde.

Alph of Yaounde on their side recorded its two defeats after falling to BEAC 61-47 and 67-69 to Douala Fire Birds as teams battle to topple reigning league champions, FAP of Yaounde.

The second window of the championship will take place in Yaounde this weekend.
