YOSA ends Bamboutos FC unbeaten run, boosts relegation battle.

North West region Elite One club, Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda have defeated Bamboutos of Mbouda 2-1 as they battle against relegation in the country

It was match day 12 fixture in the MTN Elite One championship. Seated deep in the regelation zone, YOSA headed into the fixture knowing that a defeat will further compromise their survival chances in the league.

Before Sunday’s game, the team had lost five, drawn three and won just two of 10 matches played during the first phase of the championship.

Knowing the stakes of the game, coach Anumewa Frankline injected the finest legs in the game, tasking them to deliver as their fans and supporters were hungry for results.

YOSA put up a spirited fight in the game, with Tegemo finding the back of the net on 38 minutes. The 2013 Cup of Cameroon winners took the one nil lead into the break.

Seven minutes into the second half, the forward scored his second for the evening to make it 2-0 for coach Anumewa’s side.

Bamboutos however succeeded to pull back one through Patrice Edjenguele on 73 minutes. Their attempts to draw level met with a watertight YOSA defence as the match ended 2-1 in favour of the Yellow Submarines.

President Yong Jacques’ team secured all 3 points, completing their revenge over the Mangwa Boys who had defeated them on a similar 2-1 score when both teams met during the first match of the current season.

YOSA are now ranked 9th on the temporal classification league table with 12 points.

The win for captain Tegemo and mates also ended Bamboutos’ 11 games unbeaten run in the championship. The last time Bamboutos Mbouda last a game was in the Cameroon Cup final against Coton Sport of Garoua on October 2, 2022.

Since then, they went to win five matches and pick up five draws in 10 league games. The Mbouda-based club still top Group B of the Elite One championship with 20 points.

 

Struggling Astres topples Union

Other day 11 matches in Group B played on Sunday, saw Astres defeating Union Sportive 2-1 in a Douala city derby at the Reunifications Stadium.

The win helped Astres to climb to the 7th position on the log with 14points.  Elsewhere, Fauve Azur climbed to 6th position with 14points following a 1-1 tie with Yaounde II Football Club.

Newcomers, Gazelle FA of Garoua played a virgin draw with Dragon of Yaounde at the Annex of the Roumd Adjia Stadium in Garoua. The 1point propelled the Garoua club to the 4th position on the standings.

 

UMS takes lead in Group A

Union Mouvement Sportive, UMS of Loum who had announced they are quitting the championship, returned to defeat Stade Renard of Melong 2-1 to maintain the lead in Group A.

In effect, the Littoral region club, had on Friday February 10, announced they were backing out of the league, accusing the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, of not paying subvention.

Less than 48 hours after making the announcement, the club returned to action and won their match day 12 fixture.

In 11 matches, they have won six, drawn two and lost three and have picked up 20 points this far.

There were other fixtures in the group; with Colombe Dja and Lobo pulling a virgin tie with Aigle of Menoua.

Title hopefuls, Canon of Yaounde, recorded a decisive 2-1 win over Djiko FC in Bandjoun while Avion of Nkam maintained bottom spot on the rankings in the group despite an important 1-0 win over Eding Sport of the Lekie.
