Jacques Mahi Matike: FECAFOOT eulogises fallen youth football league scribe.

FECAFOOT Secretary General, Isaac Mandong, in a statement, announced that Mahi Matike died last Tuesday, September 15, following a brief illness. 

The federation described the official as an exemplary figure whose contributions played a decisive role in championing the development of football in Cameroon especially at the grassroot level.

“A man of duty, accessible, and deeply committed to serving youth football, Mr Mahi Matike made a lasting mark on the league through his professionalism, dedication, and consistent actions,” FECAFOOT said.

“His journey and investment will leave an enduring legacy on the development of grassroots football in Cameroon,” it added. 

Mahi Matike served as the Secretary General of the Cameroon Youth Football League for over two years. He was appointed to the position in March 2024 to replace fellow Cameroonian football administrator Claude Ndjeng who held the post for 17 months.

The appointment saw Mahi Matike returning to familiar territory. The football coach-turned administrator previously worked closely with the former Secretary General of the youth league body Michel Kaham, during the latter’s stint in the role between 2019 and 2022.

Before his appointment to lead the operational activities of the youth football league, Mahi Matike had earlier held several other key positions in Cameroonian football.

He once served as the Vice President of the Cameroon women’s football league, the organ that is in charge of running women’s football in the country, including the fast-growing women’s topflight championship, the Guinness Super League. 

The football stakeholder also served as the Deputy Secretary General of association of Cameroonian football coaches and educators, ACEEF. The position placed him at the heart of operations within an association that was led by former Cameroon international Michel Kaham and had the former head coach of the senior women’s national team Carl Enow Ngachu as one of its vice presidents.
