Successful CHAN 2022 organisation: CAF president salutes Seidou Mbombo Njoya.

The President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has saluted the role played by Seidou Mbombo Njoya, towards the successful organisation of the 2022 African Nations Championship, CHAN. Seidou Njoya, Cameroonian football administrator is currently occupying the position of fourth vie-president of CAF.

The CAF president was speaking as the competition reserved exclusively for homes players in their country’s domestic leagues, rounded up in Algeria on Saturday February 4.

Dr Patrice Motsepe, heaped praises on his collaborator for ensuring a flawless hosting of the 2022 CHAN, despite the numerous challenges encounter.

 

The former president of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the CHAN 2022, used his expertise and wealth of experience to tackle the most challenging part linked with the organisation of the tournament like ticketing and security.

 

They were also able to set up ways that encouraged fans to attend games on match day.  

 

Mbombo Njoya, who serves as the fourth vice president of CAF has led several CAF inspection teams to Algeria.

 

Together with members of the host local organising committee, the Cameroonian born and his delegation, inspected facilities in Annaba, Constantine, Oran and Algiers earmarked for the organization of the 2020 CHAN.

 

These are efforts which paid off and have been recognised by Dr Patrice, president of CAF.

 

 “We all agree that the competition [2022 CHAN], has been successful. This could not be possible without the efforts of my brother Seidou [Mbombo Njoya],” Motsepe said.

 

“There were moments he [Seidou] spent a lot of time here in Algeria working closely with Djahid Zefizef (President of the Algerian Football Federation) and the Algerian government through sleepless night to deliver what we have experienced.”

 

It is not the first time Seidou Mbombo Njoya has contributed to the massive success of CAF organized competitions. He played a crucial part in the successful hosting of the 2020 CHAN and 2021 African Cup of Nation in Cameroon.  

 

The 2022 African Nations Championship, has been described as one of the most organised and successful tournaments ever.

 

The biennial continental football tournament which is in its 7th edition was held in the Algeria from January 13 to February 4.

 

It was originally scheduled to take place from July 10 to August 1 2022. But CAF rescheduled the tournament to early January this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa  2022 FIFA World Cup in November – December 2022. This followed an announcement at an executive committee meeting on September 10 2020.

 

A total of eighteen teams were supposed to be contesting in this edition but 2020 champions Morocco were unable to defend their title due to travel issues with Algerian authorities.

 

The 2022 CHAN ended with a thrilling final between hosts Algeria and Senegal at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

 

The local Teranga claimed their maiden CHAN trophy after defeating the North Africans 5-4 on post-match penalties shot-outs.
