Volleyball: Cameroon wins bronze in U18 African championships.

The U18 Lions defeated Tunisia in the third-place match

Cameroon has emerged as the bronze medalist of the 2026 Under18 African Volleyball Championships for boys. The team claimed the distinction after defeating Tunisia 3-0 sets yesterday.

This was during the third-place classification match of the age-group continental showpiece which concluded in Alexandria in Egypt yesterday.

The U18 Volleyball Lions outplayed the North Africans 25-19points in the first set of the tightly contested fixture before coming back to smoothly complete the job with similar performances in the subsequent sets.

The selection won the second set by 25-17points and secured a 25-15points victory in the final set. The victory had Cameroon completing its campaign in the 18-team competition with a record of four victories in six matches.

The team won two group matches against Libya and Algeria, with its only loss in the group stage series coming on the hands of Tunisia. The outfit comfortably knocked out Burundi in the quarterfinals before going on to lose to Nigeria in the semifinals.

The feat of securing a bronze medal in the tournament is expected to leave the selection with a chance of qualifying as one of Africa’s three representatives at the 2027 Under19 World Volleyball Championships.

The outfit is expected to qualify alongside Egypt and Nigeria. The two countries competed in the final of the African championships on Wednesday evening.

Elsewhere, in the women’s category of the Alexandria competition, the Under18 Volleyball Lionesses missed out on a place on the medal podium after struggling in the final stages of the tournament.

The outfit was defeated 3-0 sets by Algeria in the third-place classification game of the 18-team competition yesterday. The outfit was overpowered 26-24, 25-23 and 25-20 points across the first, second and third sets.

The team was originally eliminated from the race to the winner’s trophy of the competition after losing to Tunisia in the semifinals on Tuesday.

The failure to make the podium in Alexandria without a chance to qualify for the 2027 Under19 Women’s World Volleyball Championships as things stand.
