Cricket competitions: Cheetahs Cricket Club Bamenda eyeing double crown.

The competition was organized by the Cameroon Cricket Federation, FECACRICKET. 

Cheetahs Cricket Club defeated the Yaounde team by 135 runs to 93 runs to register the dream start in the 12-club national championship and challenge cup competition.

Nseke told pressmen after the Cheetahs’ victory over the Barons selection that the Bamenda club is building on the impressive preparation that it had in the leadup to the start of the season to challenge for the winners’ distinctions across the two competitions.

The Cricket Lions’ rising star said the team will also capitalize on the rich experience that it has gathered over the years to establish itself as one of the most successful clubs in domestic club cricket in Cameroon. 

“Our ambition as Cheetahs Cricket Club of Bamenda is always to challenge for the championship because we have several championship titles. So, our target once again this season is to secure the championship crown and win the final of the Cameroon Cup,” the skipper said.

Brilliant start

In the other five matches counting for gameday one of the first phase of the new season, Kop Pioneers Cricket Club of Yaounde were handed a 47-run to 26 points beating by giants, Spartans Cricket Club of Etoug-Ebe Yaounde.

Littoral Region’s Academy Cricket Club of Douala outplayed Royals Cricket Club of Buea in the South Region by 87 runs to 39 runs while Sixers Cricket Club of Edea outsmarted Warriors Cricket Club of Yaounde by 50 runs 21 runs in a Littoral versus Centre regional battle for superiority.

Pathfinders Cricket Club of Yaounde was defeated 67 runs to 33 runs by North Region representatives, New Stars Cricket Club of Garoua while Trailblazers Cricket Club of Yaounde were completely outplayed 97 runs by 53 runs by Stalions Cricket Club of Mfou in a Centre regional derby.

Speaking in an interview after his club’s victory over Kop Pioneers Cricket Club of Yaounde, the captain of Spartans Cricket Club of Etoug-Ebe Yaounde, Veron Fortune Bomnyuy said the club is participating in the 2026 championship with eyes on making it to the finals. 

“Our main objective is to reach the final like we did the last time. It is true we did not win the final, but we are coming with lots more energy so as to push up to close that loophole that made us not to win last time,” Bomnyuy said.

“Every match is very important, and we do not minimize our opponents. We try as much as possible to do all what we have been training for, and we trusted God, and God was with us throughout,” the team captain added.

Competition crucial…

The Director of Tournament for the competition, James Solefack stated in an interview after the opening matchday that FECACRICKET is satisfied with the quality of competitiveness that the participating teams and players demonstrated during the first day of the new season.

He said the performances highlighted the level of growth that cricket has undergone in Cameroon and especially leaves officials of the federation hoping to select several players for the national teams during the competition.

“I am convinced that between now and the Cup phase, we will not only have very great performances, but we will also have very good players we must have scouted,” Solefack stated.  

“These competitions offer us an opportunity to scout young players whom we subsequently coach to eventually join the national teams of the different categories,” he added.
