Leading telecoms company, MTN Cameroon through the Mobile Money Corporation, MMC and the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation, CAMWATER have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to modernise and secure the payments of water bills.

The agreement was signed recently in Douala. The Director General of CAMWATER, Blaise Moussa and the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of MMC, Alain Claude Nono signed for their respective companies.

According to the MoU, the MTN Mobile Money platform will offer citizens who are subscribed to MTN the opportunity to easily pay their water bills using the code *126#.

This payment through MTN Mobile Money, officials said, is time saving, secure, traceable and puts an end to long queues witnessed before now at various CAMWATER payment centres among others.

The partnership with CAMWATER, according to MTN officials, is one of the many bill payment services offered by the Mobile Money Corporation. Other of its services include payment of electricity bills, university fees, examination fees, acquisition of petroleum products, shopping in  super markets, salary payments among others.

Addressing reporters after the ceremony, Alain Nono said “we are pleased to integrate CAMWATER to our huge range of payment opportunities via the MTN Mobile Money platform; this is part of our ambition to accelerate the process of financial inclusion of actors in our ecosystem”.

The move according to CAMWATER boss, Blaise Moussa, will go a long way to reduce the queues often seen at CAMWATER agencies.  Such stress in the past, Moussa said, was not good for the population.
