Fako North: Moderator inducts Rev Kang Denis Presbyterial Secretary.

Rev Kang Denis during induction ceremony in Buea

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, the Rt Rev Miki Hans Abia, has inducted Rev Kang Denis Tem, as the new Presbyterial Secretary of Fako North Presbytery.

The induction ceremony took place during a solemn church service, held at the Presbyterian Church Buea Town yesterday.

Rev Dr Kang takes over from Rev Foncham Ezekiel. The preacher is stepping into the leadership of a Presbytery, which the Moderator has described as “very special”.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s induction ceremony drew PCC officials, pastors, family members, and Christians from across Fako Division and beyond.

Preaching from the Book of Luke 15:1-10, on the theme: "Seek the lost and lead your people into the joy of the Lord,” Rt Rev Abia told Rev Dr Kang that God’s “relentless pursuit” of the lost must define his Ministry.

“Your primary duty is not just administration, to manage programmes and enforce rules… but to lead your Christians into the joy of the Lord,” the Moderator charged, before requesting that: “Your Presbytery should be a place of welcome to sinners.”

Using the Biblical Parables of the Lost Sheep and Lost Coin, the Moderator warned against leaders who protect reputation over compassion like the Pharisees.

“God sees souls…not statistics. It is our job as Christians to fight sin, but not a sinner. It is God’s job to deal with a sinner,” he said.

The Moderator urged the church to drop judgment and “rejoice when new souls are won over to the Lord.”

He stressed that the church must go into the margins to find those lost to alcohol, corruption, drugs, unemployment, digital distraction, and even those in the church but not of the church.

Rev Kang Denis: Time-tested leader

Speaking further at yesterday’s induction service, Rt Rev Abia revealed that he and Rev Kang were classmates at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kumba, from 1993-1997.

He described the new Presbyterial Secretary as a leader who has been tested and found worthy, citing service in rural, town, and city congregations and his stabilising role at PC Kumba during the crisis.

“We are very certain and sure that we have given you a Presbyterial Secretary, who is worth it,” he told congregants during the solemn worship service.

He urged Rev Kang to be a father to the Presbytery, know his pastors, and to correct without dominating his colleagues and Christians.

“One who stands alone can easily break…if you want to go far, go together", he said, highlighting the need for teamwork.

Presbytery, church leadership pledge loyalty

Speaking during the induction ceremony, the Chairperson of Fako North Presbytery, Dr Regina Wotany, gave a brief history of the Presbytery, saying it was created 38 years ago and ranks second nationally in financial stewardship.

She disclosed that membership has grown from 4,000 to over 15,000, spread across 46 congregations, most of them led by women.

She described the Presbytery as cosmopolitan, before pledging support for Rev Kang’s leadership.

“You are the father of everybody in this Presbytery. The Presbytery will be looking up to you to champion the growth and development of the house of God. If you fail, all of us have failed,” she added.

On her part, Prof Joyce Endeley, Chairperson of PC Buea Town, where Rev Kang serves as Senior Pastor, saluted his truth in love philosophy.

She said his ability to speak plainly without sugarcoating had strengthened the congregation’s spiritual foundation.

“Because of his truth in love, the church has grown spiritually,” she stated, adding that Christians pledge loyalty, prayer, and support to his Ministry in Buea Town and the wider Presbytery.

Rev Kang, family overwhelmed

In his remarks, Rev Kang Denis Tem, who is married to Priscilia Afor Kang, said he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from the Moderator, the PCC Synod, and Christians of PC Buea Town and Fako North Presbytery.

He noted that he served at PC Buea Town for eleven months, since receiving his appointment on July 5, 2025.

The Man of God told the gathering that he understands the people he will now shepherd.

The service also involved presentation of material and cash gifts to the newly inducted Presbyterial Secretary.

It ended with prayers that Rev Kang’s leadership would unite, heal, and produce everlasting fruits.

Worshippers also prayed that Fako North should become a place where the lost are found and Christ is glorified.
