Traditional rulers of Lekie Division of the Centre region, have vowed that the corpse of their son and journalist, Ars

In a strongly-worded message addressed to the Head of State, President Paul Biya, and dated January 26, the chiefs said they won’t receive Martinez Zogo’s mutilated body.

The custodians of tradition read out a statement in Ebogo III, near Soa on the outskirt of Yaounde where the battered body of the radio host was discovered in the early hours of Sunday January 22.

According to the Lekie custodians of tradition, they have unanimously rejected the corpse of Martinez Zogo from being buried within their division; given the nature of the attack and humiliation they have endured by Martinez’s death.

The traditional rulers declared Lekie cannot receive the corpse as his killers made him to rot and left only the maggots for his kinsmen.

“Our son, Arsene Salomon Mbami Zogo, known as Martinez Zogo, was savagely murdered, tortured, sodomised, horribly mutilated and thrown like an animal in this place. Our son was taken from us in the most cruel manner. The modus operandi of the[murderers] who killed him and their sponsors indicate that this is a crime involving State Security Services,” the chiefs said in a statement.

They further said: “His killers made him rot and left us only the maggots. Therefore, we refuse to receive these maggots in Lekié,” the chiefs declared in the statement, a copy of which The GuardianPost stumbled on.

They also suggested that the mortal remains of the radio animator be interred in Biya’s family cemetery in Mvomeka'a South region.

“Martinez Zogo died for you (Biya),” they said, adding they suggest “that the remains of Martinez Zogo be taken to Mvomeka'a and that he be buried in the family vault of the President, you his Father”.

They noted that a delegation of chiefs and people from Lekie are willing to travel to Mvomeka'a village to attend the burial.

While demanding that justice be done for their son, the chiefs reminded the President of the Republic that Martinez Zogo was an ardent supporter of his regime.

“He worshipped you. He was your son. You were his idol, if anything. The people of Lekié, through our voice, demand that justice be done to him, that these criminals be arrested and brought to justice immediately,” the statement further stated.

The chiefs equally declared a day of mourning across their division.

“In view of the challenge that has been put to the Eton, Manguissa and Batchenga as a whole...a ghost town has been declared throughout Lekie Division on Monday January 30”.

It should be recalled that Zogo reportedly went missing on Tuesday January 17. His lifeless body was later found on Sunday January 22 in the neighborhood of Ebogo III, some kilometers from Fugerole, where he resided. His body was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
