Kumba I Council: Mayor outlines 2025 achievements, sets 2026 roadmap.

The Mayor of Kumba I Council in Meme Division of the South West Region, Barrister Eseme Moses Esembe, has outlined the achievements of the Council in the execution of its budget for the 2025 financial year.

The achievements were presented during the first ordinary session of the Council. 



He disclosed that revenue collected stood at 765,412,044 FCFA, while expenditure carried out for the same period was at the sum of 652,322,123 FCFA, leaving an excess of revenue over expenditure to the tune of 113,089,021 FCFA.

Based on the statistics, recurrent revenue stood at 54.46%, investment revenue at 56.78%, thus putting total revenue collected for the financial year at 60.74%. Recurrent expenditure stood at 35%, investment expenditure at 72%, giving a total of 52%.

According to the mayor, the Council, in 2025, continued to pursue its mission of improving the living conditions of citizens through strategic planning and responsible management of available resources.

"Despite the numerous challenges we face, we have recorded significant progress in several domains," he stated.

 

Zoom on 2025 achievements

In the domain of infrastructural development, Mayor Eseme stated that the Council undertook the rehabilitation and maintenance of key roads within the municipality such as the road stretches of Bonakama, Kake 1 Bongwana, and others including Meboka to Nkamlikum, Makiti, Krama, and Cassava Farm that are ongoing.

The municipal authority noted that following the commitment of Kumba I Council to the clean city campaign, its brilliant performance last year as well as its continuous lobbying, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, MINDHU, has decided to provide the council with the complete set of machines that will enable it to carry out the mass production of paved bricks for the construction of its roads.

"Fifty youths from our municipality have been selected for training which will be sponsored by MINDHU," the mayor revealed.

The mayor noted that within the period under consideration, Kumba I Subdivisional Council had the opportunity to improve on its equipment pool with the acquisition of a brand new 20-ton dump truck.

"This has boosted our impetus in road interventions and revenue regeneration," Eseme stated.

He added: "We effectively acquired and installed solar-powered street lights in Ndiba Street, Ebako Dibo Street, Kossala Inn (Baptist Hospital Road) and some at Monte Carlo Street, Kake II Bokoko, and Anglican. The lighting in these streets and others will continue this year. We effectively completed the construction of the Multipurpose Youth Centre for Kumba I at Kake II Bokoko". 

A water catchment was constructed at Barombi Mbo to supply water to the entire population that had not accessed potable water for several years. In same vein, CAMWATER networks were extended to the Hospital Road and other areas.

In the domain of environmental sanitation, Mayor Eseme stated that the Council intensified waste management operations and strengthened public sensitisation campaigns on hygiene and environmental protection. He said the council also made efforts to support education and social welfare. 

Looking ahead, Mayor Eseme said the Council remains committed in prioritising development projects that have direct impact on the population. He noted their focus will include improving road networks, enhancing sanitation services, promoting local economic development, and strengthening social services.

On her part, the representative of the SDO, while making a cursory appraisal of the execution of the 2025 budget, noted that more can be done concerning the collection of revenue.

She encouraged the mayor and his team to redouble efforts towards this direction. After a thorough scrutiny, Councillors adopted the stores accounts. Six deliberations tabled were also adopted.
