National Scout Council: Prof Mbacham Wilfred elected president of movement.

Revered Prof Mbacham Wilfred now steers the destiny of Cameroon National Scout Council

Renowned scientist, Prof Mbacham Wilfred, has been elected as new President of the Cameroon National Scout Council. This is according to a communique issued recently by the council.

Going by the National Scout Council, February 28, 2026, was a historical day for the scouting movement in Cameroon as scouts from across the country gave confidence to the distinguished scholar and youth development advocate to, henceforth, steer the affairs of the movement.

He was elected alongside Djocgoue Pierre Francois as 1st Vice President and Goura Beladji as 2nd Vice President.

“An erudite academic and institution builder, Prof Mbacham brings to the role decades of leadership in education, public service, innovation systems and youth mentorship,” the communique stated.

Prof Mbacham’s election as President of the Cameroon National Scout Council signals a renewed commitment to strategic growth, ethical governance and transformative youth engagement within the Scout Movement in Cameroon.

As President, the Harvard-trained scientist is expected to provide strategic leadership and vision, ensuring that the mission, values and long-term development of the movement align with national youth priorities and the global principles of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, WOSM.

He is also expected to perform the role of presiding over board meetings, strengthening governance systems and ensuring that policies, bylaws and operational frameworks reflect best practices in transparency, accountability and institutional resilience.

“He will also oversee strategic planning and implementation, ensuring that Scouting programmes remain relevant to the evolving needs of Cameroonian youth, particularly in areas of citizenship, leadership formation, environmental stewardship and community service. In doing so, he will champion Scouting’s foundational values of discipline, service, patriotism and character formation,” the statement further read.

His experience in resource mobilisation and institutional partnerships positions him to expand opportunities for sustainable funding, volunteer development and programmatic innovation.

Beyond administration, Prof Mbacham is expected to serve as a governance ambassador, mentoring board members, nurturing collaborative leadership culture and reinforcing institutional excellence within the Movement.
