Magrabi eye hospital gets CBM’s high-quality eye care services recognition.

The recognition was handed over by a delegation of cbm officials led by the Country Director, Julius Fon Niba, on March 9.

The High-Quality Eye Care Services Recognition from International CBM Office was received on behalf of MICEI, by the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Dr Henry Nkumbe. 



The institutional milestone follows a formal assessment process, which had three phases, to successfully attain the cbm excellence standards.

“This is based on the standard evaluation from the six building blocks of the World Health Organisation, WHO,” the cbm Country Director said when quizzed about the certificate of conformity of quality awarded to MICEI.

He further explained that: “We had to go through three phases, which was firstly an auto-evaluation by MICEI, and based on that, we had an expert who did the analysis of the questionnaire, and also we had a physical visit by a team that confirmed that Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute is qualified to have this certificate awarded by cbm”. 

According to Julius Fon, the certificate guarantees that the systems, the processes, equipment, and infrastructure in place at MICEI can provide quality eyecare services for the next three years before another evaluation is done.

According to Dr Nkumbe, the recognition from cbm reflects the unwavering commitment of MICEI’s clinical and administrative teams to delivering exceptional eye care to patients across Cameroon and the sub-region.

He further affirmed that the recognition is not meant for them to sit on their laurels but to work harder. 

“This certificate we obtained today is a big recognition of years of hard work on the part of the staff of MICEI, the doctors, the nurses, technicians, engineers, and administrators to ensure that the patients coming here get good quality eye care services at par with what one can find anywhere else in the world,” MICEI CEO said. 

He also recognised the patients who have entrusted their care into the hands of MICEI staff. 

“Without patients you cannot provide care and there's no way that a partner like cbm will be able to ascertain whether you are providing good quality care or not,” the renowned ophthalmologist said. 

He then used the opportunity appreciate government for all the support in ensuring that MICEI is able to provide the services to all Cameroonians, irrespective of their ability to pay. 

 

 

The perfect anniversary present 

The MICEI CEO also assured that the certificate of recognition comes at the right time as the eye hospital embarks on the celebration of the World Glaucoma Week. In addition, he said it comes at a time the hospital is finalizing preparation for it ninth anniversary celebration. 

“We want to strengthen our presence in the community. 80% of people who need eye care services in Cameroon don't have access to those services and so we need to strengthen our presence in the community to reach out more to people who have not been reached,” he added. 

MICEI also plans to include people with disability and the vulnerable to ensure that they have good quality eye care.

With regards to capacity development, the surgeon averred that they are working on a project with cbm to improve on the quality and number of eye care professionals training in Cameroon.
