CAMWATER DG denounces internal fraud, announces severe sanctions.

Dr Blaise Moussa, CAMWATER Director General

The Director General, DG of the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation, CAMWATER, Dr Blaise Moussa, has condemned what he has described as fraudulent practices within the public water company.

The DG revealed that the fraudulent practices have led to persistent complaints from users about the alleged shortage of drinking water connection equipment.

The development was disclosed in a statement made public recently by the Director General.

In the statement, Dr Blaise Moussa, expressed frustration over repeated reports from households struggling to obtain connection kits needed to access potable water services.

According to him, the complaints do not reflect the reality on the ground.

“I am fed up with hearing that connection equipment is missing when each of the twelve regional delegations has offloaded thousands of kits that are not being converted into effective connections and subscriptions,” the CAMWATER DG declared.

Dr Blaise Moussa disclosed that the company currently has more than 80,000 complete connection kits available in its warehouses across the country.

Despite the said substantial stock, he regretted that many households requesting connections reportedly continue to face delays.

The CAMWATER DG attributed the situation to actions of black sheep within the company as staff allegedly misinform customers about the availability of equipment.

According to him, some agents falsely claim that kits are out of stock while privately offering them to customers in exchange for unofficial payments.

“These black sheep lie with impunity to potential customers and try to extort money from them,” he said, warning that the management will not tolerate such practices.

The CAMWATER boss announced that strict disciplinary measures will be taken against those found responsible for creating artificial shortages or engaging in corrupt activities.

Sanctions, he warned could include dismissals as part of efforts to restore integrity within the institution.

Dr Blaise Moussa insisted that ensuring transparency and efficiency in service delivery remains a priority.

He has urged users to report any suspected irregularities encountered during the connection process.

According to sources within the company, the outing of the CAMWATER boss comes at a time when the public utility has faced growing criticism over delays in domestic water connections and insufficient communication about service availability.
