A delegation of experts from the United States has presented an innovative AI solution aimed at improving the mental health and well-being of healthcare workers in the country.

They were received granted audience by the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, on Tuesday, March 10.

Officials said the visit is part of ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen and modernise the national health system.

Discussions during the audience highlighted the increasing pressures faced by healthcare personnel, particularly in hospitals and health centres.

Healthcare professionals often described as the soldiers of health, constantly working under demanding conditions to ensure the well-being of the population.

However, long working hours, heavy patient loads, and exposure to difficult medical situations, it was said, increasingly raises concerns about stress and professional burnout among medical staff.

During the exchange, the minister and the American delegation emphasised on the importance of developing effective strategies to prevent and reduce burnout among healthcare workers.

Improving working conditions for nurses, doctors, and other medical staff was identified as a key step toward enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services offered to the population.

Artificial Intelligence-based monitoring tool

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of an innovative technological solution based on Artificial Intelligence. The tool, designed by the American experts, aims to monitor the psychological well-being of healthcare professionals and detect early signs of stress, fatigue, or professional exhaustion.

According to the brain behind the initiative, the AI-backed platform can help health institutions identify warning signs of burnout among staff before the situation worsens.

The system, it was added, would also provide alerts and recommend support measures that could assist healthcare facilities in addressing mental health challenges among workers.

The experts believe that integrating such digital tools into the healthcare system could significantly improve how hospitals manage the well-being of their personnel, ultimately strengthening the resilience and performance of the sector.

The delegation was accompanied by representatives of Community Health Promotion, an organiation actively involved in health and development initiatives in Cameroon.

Established on March 28, 1996, and officially recognised as a non-governmental organization on January 6, 2009, Community Health Promotion works to improve access to healthcare and promote the well-being of vulnerable populations.

The organisation’s long-term vision is to contribute to achieving universal access to health services by 2030.
