Yaounde: Mother kills three children, takes own life over husband’s alleged infidelity.

The deceased woman & children

A woman in the Nkolbissong neighbourhood of Yaounde, has killed her three children and committed suicide over her husband’s alleged infidelity. The incident is said to have happened in the evening hours of Monday, February 16, 2026.

The woman is identified in an audio circulating online as Kevine. Reports hold she had for months been expressing serious distress over her husband’s behaviour.

She is said to have reportedly accused her husband, who frequently travels abroad for business, of being unfaithful and planning to marry another woman.

It is also alleged that Kevine had claimed her husband had not formalised their union, despite having three children for him.

This was reported to be a particularly painful betrayal, owing to accounts which hold that the man in question had reportedly promised to marry her.

The woman is said to have found it painful, given that the husband had previously experienced fertility challenges before Kevine gave him three kids, reports hold.

According to accounts emerging from close family sources, Kevine had repeatedly issued warnings to those around her that she would “do something he would regret,” and that “everyone would lose”.

Family sources are said to have indicated that she had, for months, expressed feelings of rejection and insecurity.

A video that circulated widely on social media captured the gory scene. In the footage, the three children were seen motionless on the floor in their   family home.

Kevine too was seen in the video visibly distressed and covered in blood. She battled for life while responding to anguished questions from those who had rushed to the scene.

Asked what she hoped to gain from her actions, she stated that she wanted to die and that they were all going to die. She later succumbed to her self-inflicted injuries.

Kevine is said to have mixed rat poison into food and administered it to the three children. Neighbours said they noticed something was wrong and rushed to the scene.

When confronted, Kevine reportedly took a knife and inflicted severe wounds upon herself, slitting her wrists and stabbing herself severally.

Family member narrates ordeal

In an audio that has made waves on social media platforms, a woman who identified herself as the sister to Kevine's husband, recounted the painful sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.

She revealed that Kevine had first reached out to her in November, expressing her anguish over her husband's alleged unfaithfulness and his reported intention to abandon her and marry another woman.

The author of the audio narrated having tried on numerous occasions to counsel and support Kevine. She narrated that she had urged the lady to focus on building financial independence with offers of traveling to Canada or France for fresh start to life if she wished. The same person also said she had also offered to take care of the children in Douala, if Kevine had accepted the option to travel abroad.

According to the audio, Kevine had been financially supported by her husband, who reportedly provided a monthly allowance of FCFA 50,000 FCFA and funded business ventures, including a hair salon and a shoe shop. These, the supposed sister-in-law noted, included the construction of a house for Kevine.

Despite these, the author of the audio claimed Kevine remained dissatisfied and felt the gestures were insufficient, particularly over property documents not bearing her name.

The woman also said she had expressed grave concern over Kevine's emotional state, noting that she had observed signs of psychological distress likely compounded by a difficult upbringing.

She disclosed that Kevine did not know her father and had a mother who too had suffered from depression.

The husband, still in transit when the tragedy unfolded, was informed while abroad, reports hold. It is reported that the mother of the man in question had been kept in the dark about the tragedy until yesterday.

As we went to press yesterday, authorities were yet to react to the happenstance.

Minister condemns barbaric act

In a release issued yesterday, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Prof Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, expressed deep shock in the what she described as a “family drama”.

She regretted that the “barbaric act undermines the life, dignity and fundamental rights of human being in general and those of the child in particular”.

While presenting her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the minister called for “responsibility and vigilance” to avert any further act of infanticide in the country.

Prof Abena Ondoa affirmed the unwavering commitment of government to ensure the protection of children and respect for human dignity.
