The National Gendarmerie has announced the arrest of two suspected cocaine traffickers and the seizure of five kilogrammes of cocaine during an operation carried out in Douala earlier this month.

According to information made public on the National Gendarmerie’s official Facebook page on January 19, operatives of the Central Criminal Investigation Service, SCRJ, acting on intelligence, arrested Ogbajar Bénédicte and Hussein Adji on January 10, 2026 in the Makepe neighbourhood of Douala. The two suspects are said to be nationals of a neighbouring country.

Following their interrogation at the SCRJ headquarters in Yaounde, Ogbajar Bénédicte and Hussein Adji were brought before the High Court of Douala, Bonanjo on January 16, 2026, where they are expected to answer to the charges filed against them.

It emerged from the gendarmerie publication that at the time of the arrest, investigators recovered five kilogrammes of cocaine in the possession of th4 suspects. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of about 75 million FCFA, according to security sources.

According to the gendarmerie post, investigations conducted by the SCRJ revealed that the operation was linked to a wider drug trafficking network allegedly headed by Ogou Umeh Victor. Authorities said Ogou Umeh Victor has been living in Cameroon since 2012, after leaving his home country due to legal problems. Officially, he was known as a trader dealing in vehicle spare parts and electrical appliances at Marché Congo in Douala.

However, investigators reported that his main activity was the trafficking of illicit drugs commonly referred to as “Taille” and “rock”. To expand his operations, Ogou Umeh Victor allegedly recruited Ogbajar Bénédicte and Hussein Adji, who share his nationality, to receive and distribute the drugs.

According to the investigation, the two arrested suspects were responsible for transporting and distributing drugs to dealers and consumers in several cities across Cameroon. Ogou Umeh Victor is said to have personally overseen sales within Douala, using commercial outlets such as car spare parts and electrical appliance shops in Camp Yabassi and Marché Congo, as well as operating from his residence in the Logpom neighbourhood.

The alleged ringleader, Ogou Umeh Victor, remains at large.
