Over 6,100 police trainees, newly promoted officers awarded diplomas, epaulettes.

Some 6,130 personnel of the police corps who have come to the end of their refresher training programme and those newly promoted to higher ranks by the Head of State, Paul Biya, have been handed end-of-course diplomas and epaulettes corresponding to their new ranks. 

The dual ceremony unfolded simultaneously across the national territory on Friday, December 12. In Yaounde, the event held at the esplanade of the National Advanced Police School. 



The Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, presided the ceremony. 

It was attended by members of government, representatives of the diplomatic corps, administrative and municipal authorities, other guests as well as friends and families of the graduates and promoted personnel. 

Of the graduates, 351 were trained at the National Advanced Police School in Yaounde while 65 were trained at the Mutengene Police Training and Application Centre.

Among the 2,332 promoted to higher ranks are; seven Specialists Superintendents, 298 Professional Superintendents, 67 Professional Assistant Superintendents, 599 Senior Superintendents, 12 Deputy Superintendents, four Second Grade Assistant Superintendents, seven Senior Police Inspectors, 142 Second Grade Police Inspectors, 1,172 Senior Police Constables and 24 Second Grade Police Constables. 

 

Enter Y’de police academy commander 

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of the National Advanced Police School, Police Commissioner Tang Enow Lawrence Oben, lauded the Delegate General for National Security for the multiform reforms he has brought in the corps.

Commissioner Tang said the school received in two contingents, 358 cadet commissioners and police officers for the training last December 4, 2024, and March 10, 2025, respectively.

The first contingent, made up of specialists, he detailed, comprised seven cadet commissioners including five general medicine practitioners and two electrical engineers while second contingent comprised 351 cadet police officers and student police officers. 

He revealed that four trainees could not complete the training due to ill health and death while one died during training and two others abandoned the training.

Of the total of 358 admitted in the two contingents, he said 354 commenced the training but only 351 completed the rigorous process to graduate and are receive diplomas. 

Commissioner Tang added that the graduates also include 67 cadet inspectors of police trained at the Mutengene police school of which 65 were successful and two considered interns. 

He saluted the police boss for meticulously selecting the trainers who impacted knowledge on the trainees and deemed them ripe for graduation. 

“Your excellency, the products we are about to put at your disposal for use today are of premium quality. They were trained with utmost diligence and it is with a strong feeling of mission well accomplished that we hand them over back to you,” the Commander of the Yaounde Police Academy stated. 

 

Police boss urges personnel to be professional 

Speaking during the ceremony, the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, expressed profound gratitude to the President Biya for promoting meritorious officers and validating the refresher training of others. 

Mbarga Nguele said the promotions from President Biya are for their dedication, discipline, loyalty, honourable conduct, ability to improve and for their unwavering commitment to the peace and stability of the nation. 

He specifically told the senior personnel of the corps that the new epaulettes awarded them comes with greater responsibilities and higher professional expectations that warrant them to be inspiring leaders to those placed under their command. 

“To do so, you must from this moment on, demonstrate exemplary conduct, integrity, and expertise. From this moment on, you must demonstrate expertise, courage, and also humanity,” he stated. 

Mbarga Nguele also told police officers that beyond carrying out the duties of their position, they also have a sacred obligation to help their colleague constables to improve. He urged all of them to remain loyal and devoted to public institutions and those who embody them. 

While extending the words of congratulation of President Biya to the national security family for efforts to main peace and order throughout the October 12 poll, the police boss also tasked the personnel to ensure hitch-free celebration of the end-of-year festivities. 

Speaking to reporters, the graduates and newly promoted personnel pledged to put knowledge gained and confidence bestowed on them to better serve the nation and its citizens.
