Customs officers in Bafoussam have seized 40 kilogrammes of Indian hemp concealed inside a travel bag. The item was seized during a night operation carried out between December 2 and 3, 2025.

According to information made public by the Customs, the interception was conducted by elements of the Bafoussam 2&3 Mobile Customs Brigade, who discovered the narcotics hidden in luggage aboard a public transport bus travelling from Bamenda to Yaounde.

Customs further disclosed that the owner of the travel bag was identified during routine checks.

He was removed from the vehicle and is expected to be presented to the State Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Bafoussam.

The officers noted that surveillance remains active across borders and within the national territory.

It should be recalled that anti-drug operations in the country have been intensified in recent months.

On September 27, 2025, elements of the Douala 2 Gendarmerie Company conducted a targeted raid in the Tergal neighbourhood, at a location known as Pamplemousse, an area described by security forces as prone to high criminal activity.

The midday operation resulted in the arrest of five suspected traffickers aged between 25 and 41.

During that raid, gendarmes seized 220 wraps of Indian hemp, a 500-gram packet of cannabis, two pipes, a syringe, 160 empty packets and a pair of scissors.

The suspects were referred to the competent judicial authorities for further action, while investigators continued efforts to identify additional accomplices connected to the network.

Security services report that such operations form part of ongoing measures to counter the circulation of prohibited substances within urban centres and along major transport routes.

Surveillance teams across customs and gendarmerie units have continue to report targeted checks and interventions aimed at intercepting illicit goods and identifying individuals involved in trafficking activities.
