After re-election as FECAFOOT boss: Eto’o unveils ambitious roadmap to revive football.

Eto’o during Saturday’s elective general assembly

The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o Fils, has promised to introduce drastic reforms to revive football in the country.

Eto’o Fils unveiled his new ambitious roadmap to reposition Cameroon football to its once enviable and legendary level, after securing re-election at the helm of the country’s football governing body, FECAFOOT.

The iconic player and former skipper of the national team, was re-elected during the Elective General Assembly of FECAFOOT, which took place at the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo, in the outskirts of Yaounde. The exercise was held Saturday November 29, 2025.

It was attended by the Divisional Officer, DO of Mbankomo, Ebella Ngambi Vichy, epresentatives from the Confederation of African Football, CAF and the International Federation of Association Football, FIFA, as well as former national team players and other dignitaries.

Eto’o Fils ran for the top position unopposed. He was the only candidate cleared by the FECAFOOT Electoral Commission. He retained the top seat for another four-year mandate, after obtaining 85 of the 87 votes from delegates.

It should be recalled that Eto’o Fils was first elected head of the country’s FA on Saturday December 11, 2021. The former Cameroon international had defeated incumbent, Seidou Mbombo Njoya.

Members of the FECAFOOT Executive Committee were also voted at last Saturday’s gathering.

Among them is former Indomitable Lionesses star, Gaelle Enganamouit; PWD of Bamenda President, Pascal Abunde; Celine Eko; Ndazeh Valery and Pierre Batamack.

Eto’o Fil’s four-point vision

Following his re-election, Eto’o Fils anchored his new mandate on four key points.

The former FC Barcelona and Inter Milan ace striker, said focus will be placed on restoring the values to the national team, and making the Indomitable Lions brand more attractive.

Eto’o Fils also revealed that emphasis shall be placed on making the country’s championship, the MTN Elite One and MTN Elite Two, more competitive.

The newly re-elected FECAFOOT boss, also stressed on the need to strengthen the autonomy of FECAFOOT.

Eto’o Fils had previously promised a wide range of reforms to thrive the sport when he was elected in 2021, but failed to deliver on his promises.

Amongst them, Eto’o Fils had promised to construct 10 stadiums during his mandate but ultimately failed.

Experts have pointed out that the new priorities are essential and timely to bring about progress after a string of disappointing results, described by sports analysts as arguably the worst in the country’s footballing history.

In the last four years, no selection of the national team has impressed on the continental and global scene.

While some selections failed to qualify for major competitions, those that did, at times under very hard struggle, did not give a good account of themselves.

Protests mars FECAFOOT Elective General Assembly

In the early hours of last Saturday, some leaders of Jeunesse Stars protested in front of the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo, to denounce their absence from youth football in recent years.

They carried placards with messages to voice their frustration. One of it read: “Stakeholders say no to four years of mismanagement”.

Others read: “The referees demand their salary”, Eto’o Fils free Cameroon football”, and “FIFA is complicit of the death of Cameroon football for four years”.

Congratulations galore for Eto’o Fils

Several personalities have reacted to the re-election of Eto’o Fils as FECAFOOT President.

He added that; “We are convinced that this new term will give you the opportunity to further develop Cameroon football and successfully carry out the entirety of the ambitious program you have developed”.

The President of the Ivorian football federation, FIF, Yacine Idriss Diallo, said Eto’o Fil’s re-election was deserved. He also reaffirmed his willingness to further strengthen cooperation between FIF and FECAFOOT, for both FAs to contribute to the promotion of African football.
