Yaounde-based Greensprings Digital University Institute, GSDU, has reached a strategic Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with leading community-based nongovernmental organisation, Ntuhsen Agricultural and Livestock Development Corporation Cameroon, NALDCCAM.

The win-win deal was signed Wednesday, November 19, on the Awae-Yaounde campus of Greensprings University. This was in the presence of officials of both institutions and the student community of Greensprings University. The signing was the culmination of months of negotiations between both institutions.

The Registrar of Greensprings University, Prof Victor Julius Ngoh, signed on behalf of the university institute while the Managing Director of NALDCCAM, Dr Hycinth Ndze, did same for the organisation.

The NALDCCAM delegation to the signing ceremony included Kah Elvis Kangsen, Consultant in charge of Administration and Public Relations, Dr Alex Molemba, Chief Cartographer in Charge of Operations, Chuo Ewi Marcel, Director of Plant Production, Ndangasen Timothy, Director in charge of Livestock Production, Tambe Besem Diana, in Charge of Environmental Engineering and Njoh Toh Rene.

The agreement seeks to among other things enhance the training in several domains at Greensprings University.

When Professor Victor Julius Ngoh took to the rostrum during the ceremony, he first thanked management of NALDCCAM for opting to partner with Greensprings University.

The renowned historian and serial author who served previously as Registrar of the University of Buea, and later as Deputy Vice Chancellor, described the partnership as crucial to the growth of Greensprings University.

Prof Ngoh told the gathering that he was extremely delighted to “be part of this very important partnership between Greensprings University and NALDCCAM. I say this with all sincerity because it proves once more the goals and objectives of the two institutions”.

Prof Ngoh explained that: “The agricultural policy of GSDU and that of NALDCCAM do coincides which makes this partnership very important. It provides an opportunity for the two institutions to ensure that the food scarcity we have in certain parts of Cameroon and in certain parts of Africa can be tackled. The products of NALDCCAM and those of GSDU will be able to address some of the problems associated with the shortages”.

Taking the cue during Wednesday’s ceremony, the Managing Director of NALDCCAM, Dr Hycinth Ndze, who spoke extempore said the partnership marks a crucial point in his organisation’s efforts aim at tackling food insufficiency.

The academic and researcher disclosed at the meeting that through the MoU, “we intend to supply food to this university…we intend to practically perfect knowledge of students in the field in domains such as environmental engineering, agric technology, data science, computer science and so on…”.

Dr Ndze continued that: “We will supply food to the students to help them feed well on campus. We also intend to market the skills of the students internationally. We will make sure that those who are trained here, are projected not only within our national triangle but beyond our subregion and because of that, we thought it wise that we should come together formally as we are doing here today”.

“We are here to concretise what has been discussed for the past six months. We think that this MoU will actually boost that collaboration that we have had for the past months. We also think that we want to give to this university what I have just highlighted. We also intend to tap from the expertise of the domains that are being offered here. I have seen a lot of interesting programmes in data science, biotechnology, computer science, applied economics, agricultural technology…,” he concluded.

Journey covered…

Ntuhsen Agricultural and Livestock Development Corporation Cameroon, NALDCCAM, it should be said, was established in 2022, with a mission to unite farmers, promote green agriculture, and create meaningful employment opportunities across Cameroon.

The organisation began as a Common Initiative Group in 2013, evolving into a corporation dedicated to sustainable agricultural and livestock development.

Today, the organisation headquartered in Damas-Yaounde, works closely with communities to implement innovative farming techniques, provide training and support, and enhance food security while protecting the environment for future generations.
